Wouldn't it have been nice if they'd looked at it better BEFORE making a stupid campaign promise to close Gitmo down? Did they think they'd be able to just come in there and open the doors? The problem of Gitmo is taking new shape this week with a couple of interesting developments.
It's always been clear to most everyone that the military commissions are the best way to try enemy combatants captured in foreign countries. They are not entitled to the same rights and priviliges that American citizens are and they are not tried in the same way.
I guess it's true that all of Obama's statements have an expiration date. As Jules Crittenden weighs in, "I think that Change shark just officially got jumped." Amen.

More Washington idiocy.
Why build a new prison for terrorist detainees, when we have already spent $millions to build one in GITMO?
[Wanna bet that the new one will cost many times more than the existing on? Somebody always profits when the government issues a contract. The question should be: “Who?”]
You figure the good liberals of the world, the ones who want to prove to Bin Laden that we’re living up to our highest ideals, latched on to the Gitmo situation as a symbol of us not living up to those “ideals”. So they want the place closed but give no thought to what to do with the guys or where else they could go.
The liberal mind sometimes doesn’t think things through. They are all in favor of closing Gitmo without knowing what would happen after that. They just want to show Bin Laden that we are sorry if we offended the Muslim world.
Meanwhile, there is a new $25 Million prison sitting empty in Montana?????
What is becoming of that?
Another “Shovel Ready” job creating project as promised.
“the question should be: “Who?”
Exactly. Paybacks in the form of contracts seem to be the way it’s done in government. It will be interesting to know just who will profit from this little Gitmo “new prison” deal and will there be more kickbacks to politicians, and WHICH politicians’ so-called war chests.
Why would we need another prison? Just set them free- on an uninhabited rock in the Aleutians. Give each a knife and a blanket. No need for infrastructure, no guards at risk. Oh, and do it unannounced.
I’ve long advocated that as an alternative form of imprisonment to satisfy those who oppose the death penalty.
“Where are they’, the mediots will ask. “Classified information” is the reply.
Keeping space open for FReepers and other patriots, no doubt!
They be a shovelen something alright!
