AARP will lose members earlier too by the way.

They've already started mining the 50+ crowd. I got my first letter from them when I turned 51. I've continued to get them, and they all go into the recycling bin, unopened.

I wonder how the AARP crowd feels. AARP will lose members earlier too by the way.

They'll just start mailing to thirty year olds. I statted getting them when I was 50. It seems like I have been getting them forever. I have explained their despicable politics to them many times..

ZERO would NEVER have Paid a Penny out of his pocket! That is an outright LIE! He was there in August and didn’t even take his kids the lousy mile or two to visit her even knowing she would never see her grandchildren again! IF she ever did in the first place? It appears Zero didn’t appreciate his White Grandmother who raised him very much:-(

I cannot believe that this mass murderer in a $3000 silk suit is our President.

I cannot believe that that the media has been so totally corrupted and infiltrated by the enemy, that no one confronts this monster.

I cannot believe taht the American people have been so totally brainwashed by the aforementioned corrupted media, that they are freely accepting this and so many other fascist/soviet totalitarian usurptions of all their precious freedoms, civil liberties, and human rights.

to give an interesting hypothetical, would you spend $400,000 for surgery on a person that is diagnosed to die anyway within the week? How about a month or a year? Where is the line drawn?

If someone is clearly dying, and there's no turning that around, putting them through costly surgery and procedures, other than palliative care, is a waste of their time with their loved ones, and of their loved ones' money, since it is they who will be footing the bill. Some friends' father had stomach cancer, was determined to be within a couple of weeks of death, but still the doctor did two operations on him in the last week. I'm certain that the trauma to the man's body hasten his otherwise pending death. I don't know the specifics of those decisions, but they could have been driven by the family's desires, instead of what the doctor might have thought.

A lot of those decisions hinge on the wishes of the families. Some folks get very emotional, as is expected. They want to hang on to their loved one as long as possible, but they don't really give any thought as to what is truly best for that dying person. Maybe, in the late stages of cancer, or severe heart failure, it would be preferable to have strong pain relief, and be able to spend that precious time with loved ones, instead of being stuck in the hospital with tubes running out of every orifice.

But those decisions ultimately should be made by patients and families, NOT a government bureaucracy.

I hear you both. I am 51 and got my invite before I was 50. I refuse to join. Not because I don't want the discounts mind you, I am fugal for sure, and if I can get something cheaper, I will. But their politics I hate, so I will not join them unless I become senile, then I won't know the difference.

Or Grandpa shouldn't get treatment for his prostate cancer because it's expensive, and with his bum ticker, he's likely to die in the next couple of years anyway.

This is exactly what is happening to my almost 90 year old grandfather in Germany (who is in better health, otherwise, than many 30 years younger.)

I wonder if there is something darker that happened to Toots? I can imagine ZerObama saying to the doctors: “Can’t ya just make her go a little faster? Do you have some pill or something?”

We are watching America, who are like those unfortunate souls of the past, on a death march—a culture of death. They are like sheep being loaded on the train to a place where the individual has no dignity or freedom. They are helpless and will let the future teach them again the lesson of tyranny. It will be painful and it will teach them through reality what they refused to learn from the lesson of history.

America will learn a new lesson as it marches forth into a brave new world led by the Dark One of Death.

You are describing what the Liberal Messiah and his cohorts consider their fix for Social Security. Just do away with Social Security recipients by denying medical care at the first opportunity. Big Brother will pick who lives and who dies. Of course, Liberal friends of Big Brother will get preferential care. Congress will, of course, have their own Elitist health care; the best they can provide for themselves which will not be like that shoved down the throats of the peons or serfs.

Vote them all out!!

Isn’t Soros about 80? I doubt if he plans this for himself.

Silly person, George Soros is one of the elite, the enlightened. The upper nomenklatura. Therefore he is entitled to special treatment because he is too important to the cause.

many take a strong at pro-life position which in effect requires providing unlimited care at unlimited cost irrespective of its effectiveness at prolonging life,

I don't consider that a pro-life position. I'm very much pro-life, but at some point, it does no one any good to throw money at a futile situation, when it is clear that death is imminent. That's not the same as taking care of someone who is not dying, but who needs continual care. That's a different situation entirely.

Hubby's Mom decided, when her lung cancer returned after she'd been in remission a year or two, that she didn't want any more treatment, and the family honored her wishes. She was living with her oldest son at the time. She went for 6 months or so, as before, but then she got visibly weaker and was in need of someone to be with her round the clock to bring her meals, when she could eat, or to bathe her and take her to the bathroom, so we hired Home Care workers to do that, and used her savings to pay for it, as she had requested. She only lasted about three weeks after that, and was peaceful at her death, with two of her daughters at her bedside.

No one is required to fight, at any cost, a disease that is afflicting them. The decision is up to each one of us, and we need to make our desires known to those who love us, and who would be making health care decisions for us, if we can't convey our wishes to the doctor or hospital ourselves.
