Depending on how you phrase the questions, approximately the same percentage of the public believes in global warming as believe in alien visitors. Polls vary widely depending on when the poll is taken, who is asking the questions and how the questions are asked
A 2002 Roper poll showed that 55% of responders didn't think the government was telling the public everything it knew about UFOs and 48% believed the Earth was being visited by aliens. Compare these results to an April 2008 Pew poll that showed that 47% of responders believe that human emissions of greenhouse gases are causing catastrophic global warming.
In the case of the UFO believers, most do not believe the government is telling them everything. In the case of AGW believers one must conclude that most believe everything the government and MSM are telling them. I'd really love to know the extent of overlap in these two groups but that's not my point.
The whole global warming, "the end is near" issue is near and dear to me. I am not a climatologist or a meteorologist, but I have a very thorough background in science, statistics and critical thinking. In fact, almost 20 years ago I was initially a believer in anthropogenic global warming. The concept fascinated me so I decided to do some reading and educate myself. We all know what happens when you read the "real" science on the subject. You become a skeptic. I'm skeptical about a lot of things.

Interesting.
I will say this for the UFO crowd: to date they still have better photographic evidence to support their claims than the catastrophic AGW alarmists have to support theirs.
INDEED.
I still think that the bulk of the global warming hoax is to enrich the coffers of the greedy global oligarchy so they can exert more tyrannical control sooner . . . it’s a thieving sham, scam.
It also helps fear-monger—another favorite thing of theirs.
The Bible speaks of the sun being 7 times hotter in the END TIMES GREAT TRIBULATION . . . And there are some interesting sun things going on and more interested projected in as short a time as 3 years . . .
But neither has anything to do with CO2!
Ping to SunkenCiv;
Good, but I’d be much more interested to hear that people who believe in UFO’s are 500% more likely to believe in global warming,
which could probably be proved, if we had a polling company
I don’t think so.
Your bias is showing.
Most of the folks I know who believe in UFO’s are exceedingly empirically oriented.
Sure there are New Age Frengies . . . but they are a minority, imho.
When the more likely, more recent (I think), more repeated, more accurate percentage of 80% of the USA population believes in UFO’s, that’s considerably larger than believe in global warming.
BTW, I chucked the TV out years ago.
The article says — In the case of the UFO believers, most do not believe the government is telling them everything. In the case of AGW believers one must conclude that most believe everything the government and MSM are telling them. I’d really love to know the extent of overlap in these two groups but that’s not my point.

Well, I guess that might be a way to approach someone who believes in UFOs or has been “abducted”... LOL...
Regardless of how one may approach another person, you can’t beat the *only documentary* you’ll ever need for explaining the *false science* of “Anthropogenic Global Warming”...
Its one thing to gripe and complain about these things and disagree with it, but its quite *another* to convince your friends and neighbors and relatives and coworkers...
THEREFORE..., its also absolutely necessary for people to know the information in the following documentary. If there were simply *one* video that you could see and/or show people you know... this would be the *one*...
The following is an *excellent* video documentary on the so-called Global Warming I would recommend it to all FReepers. Its a very well-made documentary.
The Great Global Warming Swindle
If you want to download it, via a BitTorrent site (using a BitTorrent client), you can get it at the following link.

[this is a high-quality copy, of about a gigabyte in size...]
Its worth seeing and having for relatives, friends, neighbors and coworkers to see.
Also, see it online here...

[this one is considerably lower quality, is a flash video and viewable online, of course...]
Buy it here...

[this one would be the very highest quality version, on a DVD disk, of several gigabytes in size...]
I don’t recall break-downs on such a distinction.
IIRC . . . the vast majority of those who believe UFO’S are about real tangible objects also believe that those objects have to do with ET’s of one type or another.
I ——THINK-—— the percentage of those who believe UFO’s are tangible objects
who believe those objects have to do with some type of ET . . . . that percentage is on the order of 80-90%, IIRC.
I’m fairly certain it’s not below 70%.
I don’t honestly care if there are aliens or not. It doesn’t help me, either way, if there are or if there aren’t.
the “truth above all” mentality is unpragmatic, and prone to manipulation.
This story is far more interesting inasfar as global warming can be correctly linked with fringe kookishness
“Im fairly certain its not below 70%.”
I don’t know unless I see the publication, but as glopbal warming proves, it doesn’t matter what people believe. Science is not up to a vote.
a ridiculous waste of time. one of the adjurements in the Bible, repeated many times, if not to get pulled “to the left or the right”, but to stay on the right path. alien-ufo-mumbojumbo is just another timewaster so people don’t worry about the real issues, issues they can actually change and do something about, IMESHO
People who believe in UFOs are basically harmless. They’re not out there telling you how to live your life, what kind of car to drive, what kind of house to live in, how many liters of water you are allowed to flush your toilets with... etc., etc., etc....
UFO wise, myself, I am more to the “probably yes” side than the “probably no” side. But having never seen one myself and not totally concerned either way, I don’t feel much in the way of emotion about it.
The global warming gonzos, on the other hand, are frigging dangerous. They’re religious kooks just like the Muslims are in that if you are not as committed to the creed as they are you are their bitter enemy.
Thanks.
Not sure how you mean this:
the truth above all mentality is unpragmatic, and prone to manipulation.

Plenty of truth to that . . .
EXCEPT that . . .
some believers need to wake-up about it. When it falls out of the sky into the nightly news . . . their construction on reality may fracture . . . they need to be walking close enough to God to know because they know because they know that God is real; His Word is real . . . no matter what purported holographic “historical” video hoaxes the ET’s show.
Millions have seen UFOs but not one has ever been able to produce definitive proof.
Depends on what is meant by definitive proof.
Naysayers scream for tangible physical proof.
NOw there are 4,000 tangible physical proof trace landing cases.
Ahhhhh but they’ve moved the bar, now they want one in their lap with an ambassador and martini’s.
LOL.
Plenty of truth to that.
Though the oligarchy is in cahoots with both.
