Huge Metheney fan here!
Going to watch the vid.
The best electric player i know of at the moment....flawless and tasty phrasing.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=71izserFcek
I know I’ve posted about him before...but you guitar lovers might like the late, great John Martyn (RIP):

Thanks for both links. I’ve heard of Metheny but was unfamiliar with his music. A great way to call it a night.

Very, very nice. This is the genius of Youtube: we get to hear incredible performances by artists who in the past would have played magnificently in obscurity to four walls and a few friends. I hear echoes of Don Ross in this piece.
Holy crap.....Never seen anything like that. Absolutely stunning. Thanks for the link....Slowhand in overdrive.
Jeff Beck was what came to mind, too.
Serious player.
The only thing is that players like that eventually get boring to me. How long can you listen to it ? I prefer guitarist who tell a story with their notes,Jeff Beck comes to mind.
That being said the cat is amazing.
PS , unless you are born with LONGGG fingers playing like that is near impossible. Born to do it !
REALLY enjoyed that!
Thanks for the link!
Ravi Shankar meets Leo Kotke.
Is that the Taylor’s new pickup system? It’s crystaline and I wonder if that style would sound like that on any other guitar/pickup system.
Not that he’d sound bad. But what he’s doing here exploits all of what the instrument is capable of doing.
You like flamenco? This is Melchoir de Marchena:

Here’s the same Taranta by Paco Cepero:

It’s interesting: the gypsy s are believed to have originated in India, and the Raga time signature influenced the 12/8 time signature of flamenco.
He was playing SO well....until that Michael Hedges elevator music. Do your own thing, Kid. Its beautiful.
thanks
The subject of the post is slightly on the good side of mediocre - but Guthrie Govan is great, as always.
Loved it.
Glad somebody said something. There's a whole pile of these youtube guitar players who do the Michael Hedges thing with the tapping. It looks impressive but they all sound interchangeably bland. Open tunings make it easy to do pretty, droney stuff, but hard to achieve any real harmonic movement. So the music just kind of sits there. I'll take a good 3 or 4 chord song banged out with gusto over bland ethereal oatmeal any day of the week.
