Israel is Judging US Reaction To North Korea Launch
WSJ/Yidwithlid ^ | 4/5/09 | Yidwithlid

The launch of the North Korean missile has implications that go way beyond Asia. The reaction by the United States to the North Korean launch will have an impact on the Middle East. Jeffrey Goldberg's well publicized interview with new Israeli Premier Bibi Netanyahu showed that Bibi expects Obama to react strongly to rogue nations developing nuclear capability:

“The Obama presidency has two great missions: fixing the economy, and preventing Iran from gaining nuclear weapons,” Netanyahu told me. He said the Iranian nuclear challenge represents a “hinge of history” and added that “Western civilization” will have failed if Iran is allowed to develop nuclear weapons.

In unusually blunt language, Netanyahu said of the Iranian leadership, “You don’t want a messianic apocalyptic cult controlling atomic bombs. When the wide-eyed believer gets hold of the reins of power and the weapons of mass death, then the entire world should start worrying, and that is what is happening in Iran.”

History teaches Jews that threats against their collective existence should be taken seriously, and, if possible, preempted, he suggested. In recent years, the Iranian president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, has regularly called for Israel to be “wiped off the map,” and the supreme Iranian leader, Ayatollah Khamenei, this month called Israel a “cancerous tumor.”

Israel is watching the United States' next move with North Korea and that may determine how long Israel will give for diplomacy to work. If it is perceived as weak, Iran will be emboldened and Israel will shorten its time line:

Looks like B-HO will be 0 for 2.

If that's the case, IDF bombers are probably in the air right now.

Israel was the first thing I thought of, after Obama made his weak non response.

Why on Earth would Israel trust the USA to protect her?

Don't worry. Obama, the EU and UN are going to “strongly condemn” the DPRK’s “reckless behavior.”

It's the next best thing to voting “present.”

The Japanese would be wise to set up some task-forces with the Israelis for the development of super-fast projectile and e-m beam weapons, with super super fast tracking. It’s a software and hardware boundary type problem, and the two nations have the exactly complementary skills that would be needed to produce results quickly — if they could resolve interpersonal difficulties. Japs are high-strung status-patterned conformists, Israelis are high-energy status-deconstructing noncomformists.

Maybe Obama’s idiocy and spite and the US Congress’s moral and intellectual insanity is the best thing for the world .. if the Japs and Israelis could learn to work together well.

Obama himself is a wide-eyed believer, of sorts.

LOL! Israelis 3 to 1 wanted Juan McCain.

78% American (liberal) Jews voted for the Muslim and friend of Hamas. I know one of them and she laments how Bernie Madoff could con and rip off his own people. Hussein is a bigger con man and far more dangerous than Bernie Madoff. Liberal American Jews did to Israelis what Madoff did to investors. Insane. Thank goodness Bibi is in charge.

From what I have seen, the Norkie missile got out to about Wake Island ? That distance traveled is about equivalent to the distance between the northwest corner of Iran and London.

Israel

You're F#&%ed!

I wouldn't rely on us. Worse yet, depending on how Israel takes action this administration might actually turn its back.

I would not have much confidence in this new administration:

They will be risk adverse. Anything that brings negative press or could go wrong they will avoid, no matter how great the payoff or opportunity is. Like Clinton that let Osama slip from under him because of concerns that ultimately come back to him being politically damaged if something goes wrong, this administration will be extremely careful and unlike Bush will NOT take a bloody nose.

Moreover, they will hide behind international organizations and political bodies to justify inaction when it benefits them. This is the game the Europeans play. When France wants to take action in the Ivory Coast they will bomb and annihilate the nations entire air-force, going in aggressively and blasting everything in their way. When they don't want to do something they will require 20 UN resolutions before they send 800 peacekeepers to Afghanistan that aren't allowed to fight.

Finally, they have no real cause may it be democracy, freedom, law or anything else other than their political ambitions. You're looking at pure politicians with no loyalties, principals or values. They would throw Israel under the bus in a second if they thought this would put them at a disadvantage in the 2012 elections to stand by her side.

That said, Israel needs to consider what, how and the timing very carefully. IMHO

The purpose of the State of Israel is for Jews to be able to defend themselves. The time is here.
