Gordon Ramsay suggests punishing parents of obese children (Barf alert!)

Gordon Ramsay is known for his militaristic approach in the kitchen to motivate contestants on his Hell's Kitchen reality competition series, and the foul-mouthed British chef apparently believes lawmakers should be just as tough on the parents of obese children.

"If kids become obese and out of control, then seriously fine the parents and threaten them with a court appearance because they often don't realize what they are doing," said Ramsay during an interview with Men's Health magazine, according to the U.K.'s Daily Mail. "If you're going to be a healthy nation then you've got to discipline the parents for having no control."

In addition to the health risks associated with obesity, Ramsay said heftier children also endure psychological suffering at the hands of other youth.

[snip]

Fans of Fox's Hell's Kitchen shouldn't be surprised to learn that Ramsay also advocated frightening children about the dangers of unhealthy eating as a way for parents to educate them on the importance of taking proper care of their bodies.

"That documentary, Super Size Me, scares the hell out of my children," he told Men's Health. "And you have to scare them like that to make them understand it's not good for you."

...Ok, ok, we would have to do a gov’t paid for doctor risk analysis/evaluation to see who is spared the fat tax.

The only reason to watch his show is to see if somebody finally gives him a meat cleaver to the head.

Hey Gordon, lets play my game first. You get punched in the mouth if you say something stupid. Now...close your eyes!

I’ve always liked Gordon Ramsay (especially “Kitchen Nightmares”) but that’s a huge load ‘o crap.

The idea that the state should get involved with this is ludicrous. However, a real problem exists:

A child brought up to be obese will - over a lifetime - cost health care providers about as much as an AIDS patient (again, over a lifespan). That is serious dinero (diabetes meds, heart disease, surgery etc.), which other people do have to work for.

That may be true but it does not justify in anyway what Gordon Ramsay is proposing. Suppose they order us on the wrong diet and it makes things worse? Suppose also that the child has a genetic problem that causes the obesity and the parents are arested for no fault of their own?

Completely agree. That's why I called his statement ludicrous in the first place.
