Two-faced California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger declared a state of emergency Friday, urging urban water systems to cut usage by 20%.
This drought is having a devastating impact on our people, our communities, our economy and our environment, making todays action absolutely necessary, the so-called Republican governor said.

The only good thing I can say about Ahnuld is he’s terming out.

California farmers get water for next to nothing (or nothing in some cases) in the middle of the desert. I don’t know why so much farming is done in those arid regions.

Farmers need water to wet down their field before plowing, otherwise they will raise a dust cloud and be in trouble with the EPA.

The jerk never should have “termed in”. He makes Gray Davis look brilliant.

This morning on the news they said the snow pack base at Mammoth Mountain is 14 feet, with another 24” having fallen in the last 24 hours.
Even our Southern California mountains have had more snow than usual.
I have a hard time believing them when they cry DRAUGHT!

Well welcome to the club, it has been raining in Norhern(almost central but not quite)CA all week and actually over the weekend also. As soon as the dumb a** we call governor screamed drought, the rain started and it has been raining every since. It has stopped temporarily but it will start again and it is supposed to rain through Friday. Now, the fact is I am at 900 feet, at 3000 ft and higher the rain is snow, that's right, a higher than normal snow fall but the idiot still screams drought. One has to ask why. The why is easy. He wants to deny farmers water this summer so he can "save the frickin' fish". There is a small fish that no one, except enviros, care about, that they are complaining about. So, the gov has to kiss their butts and declare a drought so he can starve people so a smelt can survive.
If he isn't a democrat registered as Republican I don't know one when I see one. Can you say "Governor RINO Terminator"!?

1. The Imperial Valley is not a Desert
2. Land is cheap in this area keeping prices for food down

California (and other western states) have been in so-called “drought” conditions more often than not for as long as I can remember.
I think the paradigm needs to change.
Dry years = normal
Wet years = not normal
This kind of thinking will (in a sane world, which we don’t live in any more) lead to looking for more sources instead of just trying to save more.

You’re in NoCal? At least your mayor isn’t a former mexican gang member and protests with the illegal aliens whenever he gets the chance to.
To: max americana
Yep, I am glad, but we have our share of illegals up here also mowing lawns that Americans won’t mow!

Depends on how much water content the snow has. You can have an ordinary snowfall with 10 inches of snow per 1 inch of rain, or a "dry" snowfall with 24 inches of snow per 1 inch of rain.
It's not how thick the snow gets. More importantly is how much water is there when the snow melts.
Cool, dry weather creates a lot of the fluffy stuff that's great for skiers and terrible for farmers.
