Author's note: A version of the following column first appeared in the Christian Coalition magazine. It also was posted on the Illinois Leader and, most recently, appeared on the Illinois Family Institute's web site.

Nearly thirty years ago, my wife and I aborted a child. That decision will haunt us for the rest of our lives. Since that time, I've developed deep feelings on the subject of abortion.
There are two primary reasons why I'm pro-life. Besides taking a human life, aborting a child robs society.
Since the Roe v. Wade decision in 1973, some say over 50 million unborn babies have lost their lives. The city of Chicago and its surrounding area are home to approximately 5.1 million people. The number of babies aborted during the past thirty-four years would re-populate Chicagoland tenfold.
How many doctors, teachers, poets and engineers will the world miss because of abortion? Maybe one of these aborted children could have discovered a cure for cancer or AIDS. In fact, my very own son or daughter might have developed a cure for the blindness that afflicts me today.
How many handicapped children has our culture missed, teaching us compassion and patience? Are we a different society because of the one out of three children, perfect or not, who weren't given the chance to survive? Can it be said the world is a better place because of the Roe v. Wade decision?

We missed Al Gore, but that is no excuse.
Some dedicated Freepers may have read this testimony earlier. I decided to repost the piece because I posted it on Free Republic at a time when many of you may have missed its original posting. I apologize to those who may have read the column the first time, but I feel it is important enough to share with those who may have missed it the first time around. I fervently hope this reposting does not offend Free Republic readers.
The Free Republic is a very popular and influential blog and I hope this column may change the pro-abortion opinion of at least one individual who believes abortion is simply a surgical “procedure”. Of course, my greatest hope is this column will save the life of one unborn child who may have been targeted by those who seek the blood of the unborn. In that case, I would consider myself as being humble in the blessing the result of the column may bring to that one child and our society on the whole.
As stated in the piece, my wife (Julie) and I regret that decision to abort every day of our lives. We sought and accepted God’s forgiveness which was made possible by the death and resurrection of His Son, Jesus Christ.
Sincerely,
Dan Zanoza
I am pro life. My husband and I adopted 3 children. They were all born before 1973. I shutter to think that after 1973 they would probably have been aborted.
My youngest daughter has 3 adopted girls. The oldest is attending Gallaudet U in Washington DC(Master’s Program). The other 2 are sophmores in high school.I just ordered their birthday present.Three rings each engraved with”I’m Glad You Were Born”. Three beautiful, smart, loving granddaughters could I ask for anything more???
