Rep. Tom Tancredo Says Jindal Speech May Have Ended His Chances for Presidency - Video 2/26/09

Here is video of Rep. Tom Tancredo assessing the performance the other night of Gov. Bobby Jindal in giving the GOP Response to President Barack Obama's address. In short, Tancredo says Jindal's content was great but his delivery was lousy. In fact, he says it was so lousy that his performance may have "put the last nail in the coffin" on his chances of becoming President. Tancredo says Jindal is a great intellect but did not show himself to be a "leader" in his speech.

Tancredo believes Gov. Mitt Romney is best positioned now to lead the GOP forward in 2012. Tancredo made the comments during an interview at CPAC today, February 26, 2009.

As I said the other night, I believe Jindal's content was great but his delivery certainly could have been better. But I just don't think that speech will end Jindal's chances for the Presidency. He still has a very bright future, and could be the next GOP President in 2016 if not in 2012. Remember, everyone laughed off Bill Clinton after his disastrous speech at the Democratic Convention in 1988 that went on and on and on. But four years later, he became President. Four years is a very long time in politics. I would not count Jindal out just yet. . . . . (Watch Video)

Style over substance is FIRMLY entrenched in political reality.

It is a sad, but true, fact of political life and will remains so forever.

It started with JFK and matured with RWR and solidified with the election wins of WJC and BHO.

IMHO the GOP will have to find someone "CLOSE" to Reagan, who possesses both style and substance, before it will win another Presidential election.

It ran so long, that when he addressed the 1992 convention, he started by saying “thanks for inviting me back to finish my speech” or similar words.

The loudest applause he got in that 1988 speech, was when he said, "and in conclusion..."

But as slick as he was, he quickly turned it into an advantage by appearing on Carson a few days later and made light of it.

You are wrong about Palin and Jindal, especially about Palin. She fired up the base last year and gave Mcloser more votes than he had a right to expect. If it wasn’t for her McCain would have been a total laughing stock. Jindal needs to work on his delivery, that is true, but it can be fixed. His ideals and Palins ideals, are consistant with the conservative(not republican)ideals. Together they would make a great team. Palin is fire and ice, she can activate a crowd like no other candidate we have seen recently. Anyone who bad mouths either one of these two great conservatives is just plain stupid and that goes for you.

Can anyone on here tell me how the Democrat who delivered the “reponse to the President” weekly speech this time last year did? Or even who that Democrat was?

Common law regarding citizenship has long been overriden by newer statutes that apply to the individual. Jindal is born here, ergo he is a ctizen.

That's something you can't really say about Obama ya' know, and probably not Pelosi either.

For 30 pieces of silver Tom.

Jindal should and will be gunning for 2016 or 2020.

2012 Conservatives have SARAH PALIN. Maybe with VP Jindal.

The thing about Reagan is that you knew exactly where he stood. He basically gave the same speech he gave from “A Time for Choosing” He made his philosophy clear through his radio show.

I'd vote for Jindal five times before I'd cast one vote for Romney. Hmmmmm...maybe I'll sign on DU and learn exactly how one casts five votes.

Tancredo got into some bad koolaide. Disappointing.

Tancredo and Romney are has-been and/or never-will-bes. It’s time for the GOP to move on.

In case no one has noticed. we are living in the compressed-speech age, a time when time itself just simply doesn’t seem to fit our haste; letter writing gave way to E-mailing and E-mailing is taking a beating from texting and the ‘twittering’ crowd.

There’s no place left for studied discourse and solemn announcement except those few moments while you depart the stage.

We’ve no idea where we’re going but we have to get there right away.

Place me squarely in agreement with your post. I would only add leadership ability to your formula. I think all the early speculation about 2012 and support for Sarah or Bobby is a bit silly seeing as 2010 is where our efforts and attention should be at this time.

If Conservatives do not make significant gains in 2010, then I have serious doubts that they will even be a factor in 2012.

I like Tancredo but for authority on delivering speeches I’d look elsewhere.

Ah yes, we should listen to Tancredo who helped kill the Conservative movement with Conservative leaning Hispanics because of some of his over the top anti Hispanic rheotoric which is acceptable among some on this site.

Jindal is born here, ergo he is a citizen?

According to the Birthers, one must have two parents that are U.S. citizens in order to be a natural born citizen.

Therefore, Obama being born in Hawaii cannot be a natural born citizen and Jindal being born in Louisiana cannot be a natural born citizen.

Jindal did not speak with the zeal of a patriot.

He does much better in an interview when he's speaking from his heart. This was just a canned speech that was orchestrated by the RNC. Anybody that's followed Jindal knows this speech was totally out of class and character for Jindal.

See my post 78. The guy does not have speaking problems. He was reading an RNC speech, I’m convinced. He should have told them to screw off and been himself.

I don’t either like or dislike Jindal, as I know very little about him at this point. However, to base whether or not he will succeed in the future on the basis of one speech is ridiculous and speaks volumes about how superficial politics has become.

Exactly.... Many so called conservatives jump the shark just because of some infraction as they percieve it and forget the long term goal of needing a group of like minded people plus others to win elections. It’s amazing to watch the trashing that takes place and then they wonder why they get their head handed to them in elections.
