Mayor Bloomberg has added yet another recognizable name to his ever-growing stable of campaign staffers: Jill Hazelbaker, who most recently served as the national communications director for John McCain's presidential campaign.
This comes as Bloomberg is pushing very hard to convince the GOP county chairs to give him permission to run on their ballot line a third time this fall.
So far, the chairs have expressed reluctance to say "yes" to the mayor, citing a host of complaints - not the least of which is displeasure with the lack of Republicans working in the Bloomberg administration and the mayor's recent hiring spree of Democratic consultants to work on his re-election bid.
McCain was very helpful to Bloomberg during his first mayoral run in 2001. (When McCain came to the city last April, the mayor told him: "I got elected because of you").
After ditching the GOP and then opting not to pursue an independent bid for the White House last fall, Bloomberg ultimately decided to remain neutral in the '08 race and did not endorse either McCain or Barack Obama.
In a statement released by Bloomberg's camp, McCain said Hazelbaker "brings a skill set that is valuable to any campaign" and called the mayor "fortunate to have her on board."
"I wish him and the campaign all the best," McCain added.

Let him go Dem or independant — who needs another Hugo Chavez, especially as a republican
Yeah, because the communication aspect of McCain's campaign was just so great. /s
IIRC, Bloomberg endorsed McCain long before the convention.

[snip]April 10,2008 “It is my honor to welcome John McCain back to New York City,” he said Thursday at the end of the Arizona senator’s introduction.
Bloomberg did the honors for McCain at a small business forum in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn. The move has set political tongues wagging anew. Will the Democrat-turned-Republican-turned-Independent endorse the Arizona senator for president?
“When John was here I remember he was showing me how you press the flesh and walk the streets and say hello to complete strangers,” Bloomberg said.
Yes, there is a little bit of political loyalty when it comes to McCain. He endorsed Bloomberg in 2001 when he was a politically untested billionaire businessman launching a long-shot campaign for mayor.
“I got elected because of you so if the people of New York are happy they should say thank you to you I guess,” Bloomberg said.

More of that article I found interesting:
When he finally got to the podium Thursday McCain called for federal aid for homeowners who can’t pay their mortgages.
“Priority No. 1 is to keep well-meaning, deserving homeowners who are facing foreclosure in their homes,” McCain said.
LOL. Hazelbaker:

But nothing for homeowners who budget to make their mortgage payments. Not that that group needs anything, but it irks me.
The ground rodent is a lot smarter than the politiwhore. Chuck bit Bloomberg for harassing him. The politiwhore goes to the highest bidder.
