Liberal Politicians: "Forget Controlling Guns; Let's Control the Ammo"
examiner.com ^ | 2/16/09 | Jim Kouri

Posted on 02/16/2009 11:47:22 AM PST by FromLori

Gun owners are alarmed over what they're witnessing in Washington, DC and state legislatures across the country. Realizing they could not succeed in disarming American citizens, Liberal organizations and their political representatives have decided to allow armed citizens to possess all the guns they wish. The hitch is, according to political strategist Mike Baker, the so-called gun-grabbers have decided to track ammunition for those guns by encoding the cartridges and maintaining a database.

Millions upon millions of us out here have reloading benches with years of supply stocked away, and they think that we are going to give a crap about their rules?

I'd never put it past the hard left to "compel" companies like Midway USA that cater to reloaders to hand over their sales records for use in enforcing their unconstitutional new laws.

Is there any reason to encode .454 ammo? I don’t think there is a pistol that shoots this ammo

There most certainly are pistols that shoot this ammo. Nice carbines as well.

Forged ammo is probably one of the bigger items, although you said a little about it.

Dealer records now become spectacularly valuable and I think it is probably easier to forge the bar code than most would like to admit.

Man this is a bad bill. Just awful.

I have been visiting my local gun shop weekly, and in recent weeks it has been packed, and I mean packed full of people. I find this simultaneously unnerving and comforting. It is unnerving to understand that a real threat to our liberties exists and comes not only from without but from within. It is also comforting to know that many Americans recognize the dual threats and may be prepared to deal with them.

I will be 51 years old next month and have never lived in more perilous times. If you can convincingly inform me that I am being overly melodramatic I will listen and be comforted. At the moment, I fear for my family and am comforted only in the knowledge that I have prepared for conditions I never before thought would come.

"Okay, but there can't be a pistol that shoots S&W 500 right?"

whoops, never mind, I almost forgot about the Desert Eagle.

Actually the DE shoots .50 Action Express. S&W makes a pistol specifically for .500 S&W ammo. Some custom pistol makers make them as well.

Good rule of thumb; if it's a round of ammunition, odds are someone has made at least one pistol for it.

This is pure hearsay, but the department manager at the Walmrt I go to told me that ammo manufacturers have told the gov’t no way, no how re: numbering each bullet. The task would be ridiculously huge and pointless. They said if they have to do that, they’ll stop selling ammo to the public AND the military. FWIW she also said that the big ammo companies will be caught up with their backlog of shipments some time in March.

>You do understand that Gun Control is not about reducing crime, right?

Yes I do, but I was commenting that not only is it more economical to kill prisoners rather than “lock them away for life”, and it CERTAINLY reduces repeat-offenders.

Just to clarify about everybody talking about picking up the casings, they’re taking about coding the bullets, not the cases. I can’t imagine any state passing this. Except maybe NY, CA, IL, MA, NJ? Breathtakenly stupid.

That’s a fact, and the knocking is about to begin.

I explained to my wife, when it hits the fan, she will be alone for a period of time, but it’s for the survival of the nation as we know it.

Also, the bad guy might actually just bend over and pick his brass up after shooting someone.

You don't understand. The bullet and the brass are to be encoded.

I suggest that if this happens then it will be a Taliban sort of situation. But it is going to be nation wide. Sure if one guy tries to stand his ground and his community weenies out on him then he is screwed. If the community stands solid then do you really think that a handful of Onazis are going to waltz into hundreds or thousands of armed patrtiots? It is coming down to make a decision. Are you going to be part of the solution, or are you going to be part of the problem? If you are part of the problem, then dont expect us to cover your sorry butt.

Thanks for the offer, but my butt cover has been in place for some time now.

Don't know. Supposed to be something that can't be filed off and will survive firing and hitting something. If it doesn't it sounds pretty useless as a crime-solving technique.

The whole thing may simply be a trick designed to make ammunition impossible or too expensive to manufacture. At least if you wish to remain inside the law. “Every bullet must have a full-size pony inside, and said pony must survive firing and impact unharmed. And you must feed the pony three times a day.”

If someone has authoritative information on the process I'd like to hear it.
