The average American woman is 53 lbs. heavier than the typical fashion show "runway" model, according to a new study. This video report shows graphics comparing the size of the average runway model (5'9", 110 lbs), to the average American woman (5'4", 163 lbs). I was surprised the average American woman is 5'4" tall.
I know this is a little off-topic for what we usually post here at Freedom's Lighthouse, but I could not resist posting this report. If you have ever thought those models don't look like virtually anyone you see in real life, now you know why -- they don't!
WARNING: For Valentine's Day men, don't tell your wife or girlfriend that she is 53 pounds heavier than a fashion model! . . . . . . . (Watch Video)

Unbelievable! Taxpayers are paying for that.
She usually spews her beer when I tell her that.
Yay! I'm taller than average at 5'4-1/2". (I dont weigh anywhere near the 163 referenced here, though.) I've always been the "runt" of my family, as all of my siblings, both male and female are much taller than I am.
interesting statistics
hehe
Yeah, but how much are they paying for abortions, HIV treatment, etc?
My husband tells me I look like an angel...one of those full figured angels like you see in Renaissance paintings, but an angel nonetheless; )
I have to say one thing in favor of the models. Many women have dlender bones and they are perfectly healthy even if they look skinny. Many northern Russian, Baltic and Scandinavian women look skinny but their muscle, bone, fat ratios are perfectly healthy.
However, many, many American, Mexican and British women are just plain fat — no excuses except lack of movement except at the dinner table.
Not much bulimia and anorexia in the male fashion model ranks, either.
No question that many runway models are too skinny to be especially attractive, but 5’4” and 163 lbs is just plain fat. Also, while most of us might focus on the thin runway models when we see fashion shows, the pros are looking at the clothes. And the thin models allow the clothes to hang the way the designers want them to be seen. It’s not about how the models look, it’s about how the clothes look.
LOL! it wouldn't be your comment that would get the stirred up!
OMG. That just aint right. That makes me nauseous!
The stomping gait cracks me up. The reason for it, I believe, is to give the clothes movement as the models walk down the runway. We focus on the models, but the designers and the fashion professionals, who count, focus on the close. The runway walks are designed for them, not us.
Wow...so I’d have to weight 120 lbs. I’d be a freaking stick. 135 works fine for me.
‘Id hit it.”
Pinata time?
Well, looks like I only batted .500 on the word ‘clothes’ in that post.
;^)
I thought average was five foot seven inches? Are we shrinking or has there been a massive immigration of short people? If anything, we just keep getting taller up here!
We know.
