Words matter according to President Obama. Especially when they might offend the sensitive terrorists of the world.

“Words matter in this situation,” Obama told Anderson Cooper, “because one of the ways we’re going to win this struggle is through the battle of hearts and minds.”

Obama thinks we can cozy up to moderate Muslims if we choose our words carefully. So “The War on Terror” is out. Instead, Obama uses inoffensive but meaningless platitudes like “the enduring struggle against terrorism and extremism.” ...

This was why they were so desperate for Republican backing on the Porkulus. There is NO economic authority that believes this will help, and will in fact HURT any economic recovery. Citizens are over 50% against it. With the exception of the Trinity of Twits, no Republican voted for it and the Rats can’t use that next year - they might try, but NO ONE is going to buy into “well, well, it had BIPARTISAN support.

Heck, more Rats voted AGAINST Porkulus in Congress than PUBES voted FOR it.

Yes, Vietnam. It was actually a program instituted by civilian brainiacs whereby part of the war effort involved building schools and civic improvement projects designed to win support for the Saigon government & the American war effort, and deny popular support to the VC. Unfortunately, the Communists (as terrorists are wont to do) simply blew up the schools, assassinated the villagers who supported Saigon, and stole the rice harvets and conscripted the young men & women to fight. Any opposition was dealt with ruthlessly.
Genuinely good intentions & actions were crushed by naked aggression. Net result: failure.

This could be made to backfire against Obama horribly. The extremist agitators are not interested in mollifying weasel words. Instead, they will ignore them in favor of whoever attacks them. A threatening enemy fills up their collection plates better.

For instance, they will ignore Obama’s soothing platitudes if even a minor “American spokesman” comes out and calls Islam “a false religion of pigs and dogs that worship Satan, that should be wiped out.”

It works both ways. Anytime some fruitcake Imam or Mullah spouts off about “killing American infidels”, you can bet we’re going to see it here a lot more than some mealy mouthed “moderate Muslim spokesman” who wants to tell us that “Islam is the religion of peace” for the nth time.

Poppy cock zero! The only way we are going to win is to kill those who would kill us if they could.

Great post (#22). We should become the 'naked aggressors' in the middle east with our military might. No one should even imagine raising a gun against our troops. The simple thought of attacking the Forces from the Land of The Free ought to cause serious bouts of diarrhea among those who would consider such.

First, you kick ass. Then, you rebuild according to your principles. Those insurgents who rise against you should be given a chance to surrender. After that, smoke 'em and their sympathizing families. Why? 'Cause they'd do it to you.

War isn't something you enter with gloves on. It's bare knuckles all the way. When it's over, certain luxuries may arise. Forget 'rebuilding' anything until you've won. War is about 'kill, kill, kill' and when it's over, then, you build schools and bridges, etc. Not before then.

Too bad most of the world doesn't respect Lady Liberty. Too bad most of the world has a hard-on for totalitarianism. Must be the condition of man. Preconditioned to take orders, and not able to think for themselves. If the world is to ever become a place to be proud of and live in peace, we must reject 'termite' thinking and replace it with 'individual rights' thinking.

Nothing good comes from a collective. Nothing good comes from communitarianism or liberalism. Good can only come from individuals making decisions that are protected by their constitution to exercise rights no state would ever allow, otherwise. Freedom is what it is and will not tolerate 'committies'.
