Ok 2/7/09 I am saying I am an internet addict. I spend every free hour on FR, Amazon, , news sites, various message boards, playing games or emailing friends. I go to bed at midnight and get up at 6:30 AM How much more rich could my life be if I get help and has anyone gone through counseling for this?

Just embrace it :D. Get a job that has you on the computer as much as possible, if not on news sites as much as possible. (why do you think I’m a communication major, with all the Commies, I knew way more that was going on :D) I’ve learn to play to my strengths, though I now have a major Vitamin D deficiency, but as long as I don’t break my wrist I’m good.

Check your email only twice day - AM and PM. Get a kitchen timer and set it for 20 minutes each time. When the bell rings, log off and walk away. Everything will still be there tomorrow.

I learned on FR that the chances of that being effective are very low to nil.

Well, there's a big part of your problem right there: you are still maintaining an irrational and unhealthy insistence on having friends. You see, friends generally want to communicate periodically, and this leads to conversation, which is the gateway drug to emailing, which, once tasted, will inevitably take you down the horrifyingly self-destructive path of instant messaging, texting, and twittering, after which only God can help you.
In order to stop this progressive disease in its tracks, you must immediately create a list of every flaw that each of your friends has, then send that list as an email attachment and copy every friend on it. You'll be amazed at how quickly these dangerous email conversations will dry up. Once your exposure to people has been sufficiently lessened in this manner, you'll naturally grow into a protective persona which will prevent you from ever being infected with friends again, and after you are completely free of their heart-softening influence, the natural disgust that every human has for his fellow man will then be able to flourish and blossom. This will result in a lack of desire to read any news whatsoever, as you will no longer care what is happening in the rest of the world, except to motivate you in your basement preparations for the apocalypse.

I've tried to set an internet "bedtime" for myself. I make myself turn the computer off after a certain hour.
After that, my only permissible activities are reading (a paper book, not an "e-book") and snuggling with the Mrs. :)

Lord help me. I prop a book on the keyboard and read and FReep or do other internet stuff at the same time.
I admit I am powerless over my addiction...

I’m getting ready to “get away from it” by taking a trip to WalMart. Is that what you mean? : )

Funny you should mention that, as I just returned from the firing range, checking out my reworked Glock 36.
Now.....on to that built-in bookcase project!

Yes. Wal-Mart, dinner at Subway, walk through a store (Big Lots is good and you can find lots of gourmet foods that the rich folks aren’t buying these days and Big Lots is getting real cheap overruns), watch a PBS show like Sherlock Holmes or something when you get back home, take a nice shower and shampoo your hair, do your nails, read a Psalm and some stuff Jesus said that’s in red, order something from a real catalog, go to bed early. Next day plan a trip somewhere fairly close that isn’t expensive for next week. Go to church and contribute to the benevolence fund, if you’re tempted to the computer, resist it as it will take 21 days to get out from under your addiction. Use your imagination.
