An article in New York Magazine notes the difficulty The New York Times is having in trying to find a conservative voice its comfortable with for its opinion page.
The paper is losing one of its two ostensibly conservative columnists. Departing columnist Bill Kristol is an establishment Republican whos never been accused of being exactly dynamic, eloquent or edgy. Hence, he was safe from The Times perspective.
The papers remaining voice on the right (loosely defined) is David Brooks. In Brooks, The Times has found a writer Maureen Dowd would be comfortable taking home to dinner.

If the situation in MN doesn’t work out, maybe the NYT will hire Al Franken as a Conservative voice. [/s]
why bother?? its just pretending
Should I apply, freepers?
(chuckle)
On the short list of conservative writers for the Times....
Howard Dean
Angela Davis
Hugo Chavez
William Ayers
Some in the newsroom are concerned that such extreme right wingers might reflect poorly on the paper.
The Times wouldn’t know a conservative voice if it bit them on the butt. That’s because they consider all conservatives to be right-wing nutbags.
Why not McCain? he always agrees with the NYT
I’d love to see them start running Anne Coulter.
The one thing they have NEVER had is a pro-life conservative. Not Safire. Not Brooks. Not Kristol. That and LGBT are their bottom lines.
How about Thomas Sowell?
“Id love to see them start running Anne Coulter.”
If they did they might save the paper.
They might as well stop their search.
David brooks is NOT a conservative or even a RINO.
If I hear him say, “Mark, I have to agree with you” one more time on the News Hour with Lehderer I will scream.
Couldn’t they get Ed Anger from the Weekly World News? I know it would be a step down in prestige for him to go to the New York Times but if the money is good.
Mark Stine would be great, but he is to good at exposing the NYT stupidity.
