McCarthy Unplugged

by: Bethany Stotts, February 05, 2009

More than half a century after Senator Joseph McCarthy’s hearings, Americans continue to paint frightening portraits of these “red witchhunts”—often without regard for the facts of the time.

As M. Stanton Evans writes in Blacklisted by History: The Untold Story of Senator Joe McCarthy and His Fight Against America’s Enemies, “So deeply etched is the malign image of McCarthy that the ‘ism’ linked to his name is now a standard feature of the language, defined in all the dictionaries as a great evil and routinely used this way by people accusing others of low-down tactics.”

Contradicting the critics, Evans argues, “There was in fact an immense conspiracy afoot, there were secret Communists burrowing in the woodwork, and these Communists were, in case after case, devoted agents of the Soviet Union.”

The academic antipathy toward McCarthy was in full swing at this year’s Modern Language Association (MLA) Convention where Professor Sharynn Owens Etheridge, speaking at a Langston Hughes Society panel, called the McCarthy era “one of the darkest chapters in American history.”

(Langston Hughes was a strong Communist sympathizer in the 1930s).

Another panelist, Kara Fontenot, argued that “Despite Communism’s initial appeal for some, by the end of the 1940’s most black Americans, including Hughes, had distanced themselves from Communist affiliations...However, soon conservative forces began to view the American communist party as the domestic extension of the Soviet threat, choosing either ignorantly or willfully to ignore the inconvenient fact that most American communists and fellow travelers were not spies or traitors but instead citizens with visions of radical political, economic, and social change” (emphasis added).....

McCarthyism ala “Swift boating.”

Both of which were right on target.

Thanks to our crack educational system, many people hate Senator McCarthy as the leader of the House Un-American Activities Committee, responsible for all the Hollywood black-listing.

Alinksy's rule: Personalize the target, freeze it, destroy it.

LA Times
Case Closed Rosenberg's were Soviet Spies
By Ronald Radosh
September 17, 2008

http://www.latimes.com/news/opinion/commentary/la-oe-radosh17-2008sep17,0,864776.story

Julius and ethel Rosenberg were executed 55 years ago, on June 19, 1953. But last week, they were back in the headlines when Morton Sobell, the co-defendant in their famous espionage trial, finally admitted that he and his friend, Julius, had both been Soviet agents.

It was a stunning admission; Sobell, now 91 years old, had adamantly maintained his innocence for more than half a century. After his comments were published, even the Rosenbergs’ children, Robert and Michael Meeropol, were left with little hope to hang on to — and this week, in comments unlike any they’ve made previously, the brothers acknowledged having reached the difficult conclusion that their father was, indeed, a spy. “I don’t have any reason to doubt Morty,” Michael Meeropol told Sam Roberts of the New York Times.

With these latest events, the end has arrived for the legions of the American left wing that have argued relentlessly for more than half a century that the Rosenbergs were victims, framed by a hostile, fear-mongering U.S. government. Since the couple’s trial, the left has portrayed them as martyrs for civil liberties, righteous dissenters whose chief crime was to express their constitutionally protected political beliefs. In the end, the left has argued, the two communists were put to death not for spying but for their unpopular opinions, at a time when the Truman and Eisenhower administrations were seeking to stem opposition to their anti-Soviet foreign policy during the Cold War.

The real “witchhunt” and scare mongering campaign is among the Green “envirosocialism” movement.

Global Warming is NOT lurking underneath your bed. You are not a closet “flat earther”.

Yes, and in addition to being taught that a Senator serves in the House, they're also spoonfed the pabulum that Langston Hughes, Richard Wright, and the execrable W. H. Auden were great American writers.

A liberal arts education sure ain't what it used to be.

Never mind that McCarthy was in the SENATE, not the House.

Our crack, smoking “educational” system is one reason I’m glad I have no children.

There was no HUAAC.

It was HCUAA and it was founded in the 1930s. Even Henry Miller admits that The Crucible pre-dates McCarthy.

But they tell the lie and the public believes it.

And the Communist Party USA cheers our new president.

Victory over America. What pathetic red dupes Americans have become.

That is true! I was a very dark era for the Communists. It was a grand era for America.

"The House Committee on Un-American Activities (HUAC or HCUA,[1] 1934–1975) was an investigative committee of the United States House of Representatives. In 1969, the House changed the committee's name to "House Committee on Internal Security". When the House abolished the committee in 1975,[2] its functions were transferred to the House Judiciary Committee. The committee's anti-communist investigations are often confused with those of Senator Joseph McCarthy. McCarthy, as a senator, had no direct involvement with this House committee.[3]"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/House_Un-American_Activities_Committee#Special_Committee_on_Un-American_Activities_.281934-1937.29

That was then. This is today...

Lead Bush/Cheney/Rove investigator, John Conyers Jr, chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, has ties to a group calling for the armed overthrow of the U.S. government. The organization, World Can't Wait--Drive Out the Bush Regime, is a known front for the Revolutionary Communist Party. If anyone needs to be "investigated", it's this treasonous POS, John Conyers!

It is a damn rotten shame the way the liberal establishment has re-written and twisted history with the help of creeps like George Clooney.

The truth is this: Sen. Joe McCarthy never publicly identified as much as one security risk operating in the government who didn’t turn out to be a security risk. Yet history treats him as a scoundrel and a villian. Yes, M. Stanton Evans recently published book does set the record straight on this subject.

If our children were taught the truth in history classes, they would learn that people like Sen. McCarthy, Congressman Richard Nixon, and Whittaker Chambers were the real heroes of the Cold War and that Julius Rosenberg, Harry Dexter White, and Alger Hiss were in fact utterly despicable communist traitors and spies.

BTW, Sen. McCarthy had nothing to do with the Hollywood screenwriters—that was left to HUAC. McCarthy had bigger fish to fry. He was most concerned about all the Communists and their sympathizers and fellow travelers who so thoroughly infested the FDR and HST Administrations.

Where does a man like Sen. McCarthy go to reclaim his good name after years of liberal distortion, misinformation, lies and propaganda?
