Dear fellow MoveOn member,
I'm James. I'm a MoveOn member, dad to two teenagers, and, until recently, I had a pretty good job in construction. But the company I worked for lost a lot of projects when the economy tanked, and I got laid off, without much notice.
So I wanted to write to ask for your help. Not help for me, but for all the folks who are out of a job or otherwise struggling in this recession. Let me explain.
President Obama's economic recovery plan just passed in the Houseit's got billions of dollars for education, mass transit, and clean energy. But what really gets me is that not a single Republican voted for it, despite all the efforts by President Obama to reach across the aisle. If the same thing happens in the Senate, it won't pass. But millions of families like mine need it to passit could put me, my former coworkers, and millions of other Americans back to workand turn this economy around.
We need to get some Republicans on board. MoveOn has ads ready to go in key statesstates where Republican senators are deciding right now whether or not to support Obama's plan. But time is running short. I just chipped in, and I hope you can help, too. Click here to contribute:

A new stimulus might mean a new job for meweatherizing homes or constructing green affordable housing. It'd give my kids' school some much needed funding. And it could mean real investments in mass transportation to ease traffic and cut emissions.
This is a big moment, both for my family and for families around the country. If thousands of us act, we can get these swing senators to change their votes. But we'll need to do it fastthe vote could come as early as next week. I hope you can help out.

Thanks for being such a great community. And thanks for all you do.
James Spitzer, your fellow MoveOn member
And before anyone asks, I'm on MOO's mailing list for research purposes only.

So, we’re supposed to help “folks who are out of a job” by passing “billions of dollars for education, mass transit and clean energy”. How does that help the jobless? They’ve got transit with nowhere to go, education that they can’t use (because, presumably, its for children), and “clean” energy ... but still no job.

They all know they are in trouble. ZerO can't even find three cabinet level post positions where the number one drafts aren't tax cheats, for cryin' out loud. In truth, neither Reid nor Pelosi cares a tinker's damn whether this helps or not - it's payback and it will keep them in power. What do they care if the rest of the country is suffering - they haven't lost any of their lifestyle, have they? It really is becoming a "let them eat cake" attitude there.
It sounds to me like “Fellow MoveOn member, James Spitzer” might be an idiot. The guy is out of work so he’s pimping for MoveOn and the Porkulus package?
I think Spitzer is related to Mika.

I agree. The Republicans need to continue to take a stand against this beast. It’s the only way they are going to ever have a shot at getting their voter base back. When the messiah “reaches across the aisle,” they need to jerk his ass over to their side. Let the Dems shove this down America’s throat themselves. The GOP has the highground right now by staying away from it.
Yeah, and even if he actually WAS a construction worker, he's probably a white guy, and therefore is ineligible for any of 0bama's swagbag.
Well, the claim is that a bunch of jobs will be created with all the infrastructure spending due to companies having to hire them for the work. There are a few problems with the notion that this is going to save the economy, however:
1) Most of the infrastructure spending, at least on the things like bridges, roads, repairs, etc. will be performed by state and local depts. of transportation - meaning that it will be govt. workers who are already employed who will be doing these projects.
2) For the work that will be farmed out to private firms, most of these firms are already in slowdown as it is, so the extra work may help to keep them from laying off workers, but it won't stretch their capacities beyond what they can handle so that they'd need to hire new workers.
3) Does anyone really think that we have 3 million unemployed construction workers sitting around just waiting to be hired? No. Most of the people losing their jobs are in manufacturing, support services, etc. etc. and hence would be no more qualified, or even able, to take a construction job than 0bama himself is.
It's all a con that the Dems are hoping to play on the America people to get us to go along with their big-spending swagbag for Democrat contributors.
Growing up, I was always taught that the best way to get help is to help yourself. Apparently that is not the norm anymore. You have to rely on big daddy government now. Just look at New Orleans.
Hey,didn’t this jerk listen to The Economic Gnome,
Robert Reichhhhhhhhhha.
No cash for the “White Construction Workers”.
Get a real job, like HHS Secretary.
Public transportation funding to take people to jobs they lost in the private sector.
And since he’s in construction, he’s crazy to think any of the stimulus will help him — it’s all for spending in public employment, schools, and health care.
Anyway, by the time the housing market picks up, he won’t have a construction job anyway, since Obama will give amnesty to all the illegal immigrants and they will take his job.
Dear James; SHOVE IT!
No, 500 million families, maybe even a billion!
Your feckless little life depends on your feckless president, enjoy your hope and change.
