In the current controversy regarding Tom Daschle's failure to report income (and thereby evade the taxes on that income), Daschle has portrayed himself as the most honest person in America, who always intended to pay all the taxes he owes, and who simply made an honest mistake. But history shows that this is not the first time Daschle has dodged taxes, raising even more questions about Daschle's veracity and fitness for office.

President Clinton signed the law that makes use of a vehicle a TAXABLE form of income...while he was busy signing other taxes into law, as well.
EVERY working stiff on the PLANET knows that their ‘company car’ is part of their taxable income employment package. Yeesh!
We don’t pay taxes only the little people pay taxes

It appears she was right!!!
Just try the “honest mistake” crap when you make a mistake on your taxes - something that’s very easy to do with the current impossibly complex tax code.
I think it is time for a “Fair Tax”. The biggest complaint is that it will hit the poorest the hardest. That problem can be solved!
Continue the mandatory reporting of all income. Provide an ID, to low income people who requests it, that will allow them to buy what they need and pay very little of no tax based upon their income status. To be granted the tax reduction at the time of purchase the ID would be “swiped” like a debit or a credit card and tracked. That can be tracked and keyed to prevent abuse.
The Fairtax ALREADY has a provision to handle the poor: The PREBATE check to all households equal to the tax rate times the income determined to be the government’s “official” poverty income level, thereby effectively cancelling the impact of the Fairtax. The Fairtax would not impact anyone — including the poor —until they spent OVER the poverty figure.
PROBLEM SOLVED!
