Kentucky: Punished FOr Its Politics?
February 3, 2009 | aas

Posted on 02/03/2009 5:50:48 AM PST by an amused spectator

CNN Elections 2008 shows us that Kentucky went overwhelmingly for the Republicans during the November 2008 election:

McCain/Palin - 58%
Obama/Biden - 41%

The state re-elected Republican Mitch McConnell, and 4 of 6 US House representatives were elected as Republicans.

So, it's Winter 2008/09, and Kentucky has been buried by ice for more than a week. Where's President Obama? Where's FEMA? No one in Kentucky seems to know, but fortunately for Present Obama, a lone Democrat is in charge of Kentucky - Democrat Governor Steve Beshear, and he's covering for Barry "The Big Wagyu" Obama in a Big Way:

Beshear has consistently praised Obama, a fellow Democrat, for the attention he's devoted to what Beshear calls the biggest natural disaster to hit his state.

"I was impressed that he [Present Obama] knew a lot of the particulars about what we were facing here," the governor said last week in announcing the disaster declaration.

Obama's Lapdog Media is also lending Obama a hand, by studiously ignoring any similarities between the Kentucky ice storm response and the response to Hurricane Katrina during the Bush administration. We ALL remember how the press punished Bush over that one, don't we? Matter of fact, they're still punishing Bush over that one.

Well, it's a new day in America, and a new set of voters in trouble with the weather.

Only this time, this set of voters picked the wrong horse.

Obama, and his media machine don't LIKE Kentucky's voting choices - so they'll get nothing, and like it.

Check post #38. I'm not trying to build up my post, just trying to get the facts.

BTW - you're correct, the post IS hyperbole. It's the same kind of hyperventilating hyperbole that was used to smear Bush for 8 years.

I ain't letting Barry Antoinette rest on his laurels, Wagyu steak OR "Chicago-Style mint juleps".

Icetrina it is...

We got another 10 inches last night. Another dreary day in the northlands...

Knock yourself out. Personally I find emulating the insanity that comes from Daily kos, or DU, or the moveon.org types is counterproductive.

to each their own.

We’re getting a few inches, no more than four tops, today.

Referencing my post #29.

I keep trying to figure what's so important that The Messiah keeps nominating tax cheats to his Cabinet. Now, tax cheat #1, Timmy Taxcheat Geithner, is in.

Suddenly, we got tax cheat #2. Now, yesterday, Tommy Taxcheat wasn't under Barry's Big Bus. I haven't checked today yet to see what's going on with him, but presuming he's still safe, I say - whazzup with that?

You gotta know that the IRS is going to have a HORRENDOUS tax season this year with these two guys.

Is there something in the works that is going to silence this sort of trouble and opposition? Why is Daschle so important?

During the Clinton years, Daschle was a hyper-partisan little pr*ck. Why is THIS cog so important? He's just a guy, ain't he?

It doesn't make any sense. Of course, as I posted last July, $4 a gallon gasoline going into the election didn't make any sense for the Democrats, either.

Maybe Kentuckians ought to stop paying their federal taxes (kidding), however in all reality if the Gov. were sane he could withold the portion of income raised by the state and then handed over to the Feds. (that’s not likely, tho).

"You guys used to snow and ice where you're at, anoldafvet?"

We're getting more and more used to it here as we've had at least one major winter event here for the past five years. I am used to it since I grew up in Buffalo, NY (left there after the blizzard of '77).

I don't think you ever get used to the ice no matter where you live. The Louisville Metro area does a pretty good job keeping the major routes open, especially the interstates. Part of this is due to the UPS World Port being here. UPS will not tolerate their people not being able to get to work or their trucks not being able to move. They use a lot more salt now than when I first moved here and they also brine the roads whenever a snowfall is predicted.

What did John F. Kennedy say to the Germans? Ich bin ein Berliner!

Maybe Kentuckians should write on their federal returns this year: Ich bin Tommy Daschle! ;-)

if the Gov. were sane

He's a Democrat.

LOL! Buffalo gets more than its fair share...

Wise moves.

There was an article posted yesterday that said that FEMA has been in Kentucky since the ice storm, and the governor just requested that Kentucky be declared a major disaster area. Apparently, the destruction has to exceed $45 million before they can get the “major” designation. What should have happened?

I feel for Kentucky, they do not have the events of a long winter like we have in Alaska nor the need to build and prepare like we do up here.
Its not too bad, I just got back home from driving into Wasilla, it -15, not too bad, the big suspense story right now is waiting for Mt Redoubt the stratovolcano to erupt literally any hour now, the shelves are bare of popular air filters for cars everywhere, I just checked at Walmart, I stopped by my shop and picked up an old air filter for my Silverado, blew it out with compressed air and took it home, I will dunk it in the detergent and rinse it and keep it for an emergency standby.
I have often washed air filters for my fleet of big rigs over the years.

So did we. Exact same weather pattern went literally over my house. got the same amount of ice, same amount of snow.

Have you looked at the pictures? Yeah, we got ice and snow. Our power was out here for a couple of hours. But the area around my house looks NOTHING like the pictures I'm seeing.

There was an article posted yesterday that said that FEMA has been in Kentucky since the ice storm

No, that isn't what the article said. KY requested STUFF from FEMA. They sent some stuff for the KY National Guard to use and distribute. That stuff MAY have arrived on Friday, but no one has ever really said when the stuff arrived or how much was sent. Read the articles and you see NO mention of FEMA "doing" anything at all. They are barely mentioned in more than a dozen articles.

Gov Beshear should have known by mid-day or evening on Thursday how much destruction was present. They don't have to SPEND $45 million and write it down on little pads of paper with itemized columns before they can get a major disaster declaration.

Bottom line, Beshear screwed up. Obama's fault. Because that's how we're told the world works.

Yes, the pictures show pretty much what we went through in 05 over Christmas.

bottom line is this isn’t remotely close to a ‘katrina’ type weather event. Anyone that says otherwise is simply hysterical, or ate up with the goofies.

No, but that doesn't mean that the state isn't overwhelmed, that doesn't mean that people aren't suffering and that doesn't mean that the idiot Gov gets to avoid responsibility for dragging his feet.
