The Bush administration earlier this year announced plans to augment the size of the Army by 65,000 soldiers and the Marine Corps by 27,000.
Democratic frontrunners Sens. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.) and Barack Obama (D-Ill.) are among those who support an increase in the size of ground forces.
Obama said he backs current plans to increase the Army and Marine Corps by 92,000 troops. Under his defense plan, more resources would be committed to counter-insurgency and intelligence expertise as well as language and cultural skills.
OK before we go off on a tagent I caution you all to at least learn how our government Works.
Obama isn't cutting anything.
Congress is!
Obama can ASK but it takes Congress to make a budget or deal with spending money.
WIth that said, yeah he most likely will get what he wants on lots of things but President's can't do all that much without Congress.
He’d be insane to try this. I say that, but then again, Bawney Fwank was calling for a 25% cut in the military last November, so maybe I should be happy OB is only calling for 11%? This is like a bad dream. Yes, I’m still in the military, and no I don’t know many that are happy with this. Maybe 11%, ironic eh?
Time to look for a good impeachment process. He took an oath to defend the people of the USA and if he is going back on that oath, then he needs to be reminded in a VERY BIG WAY!
Does this come as a surprise to anyone?
He’ll talk the talk and then wield the ax.
It’s a pattern.
Wonder if they’ll be patterned after the SchutzStaffel?
This cut is for R&D budgets, and has nothing to do with the proposed cuts in missile defense or other programs seen as too modern by the Obama administration. Also, Congress, led by Barney Frank, wants to have an additional cut of at least 25% from the Military’s general budget
Frank is still pushing the 25% cut. It would be attached to any defense appropriations bill. And, you can bet it will pass the senate and will be signed by Obama.
