A couple of weeks ago, "six to eight" inches of snow were forecast to fall in and around the New York City area. Every station in town began their "team coverage" from salt truck stations all over the Tri-State area well in advance of the storm's arrival.
The forecast remained fairly steady in the hours leading up to the "event."
Then, about seven hours before the storm was supposed to hit, the predicted time of the storm's arrival was pushed back by about eleven hours. On top of that, snowfall totals were amended to "one to three" inches due to slight shifts in the weather models.
By the time it was all said and done, an inch - at best - fell here in Brooklyn.
It happens.
I have also done some research, looking to find reports from meteorological professionals (other than Al Gore, Jr.) dating back to last winter and spring predicting a "colder-than-normal" season this winter (in some places, a record cold winter). Unfortunately, I didn't find too many, save for the few who wrote "Global Warming is Causing Global Cooling" end-of-life-as-we-know-it doomsday pieces. I did, however, find thousands - literally thousands - of articles about the planet's impending demise due to man-man climate changes.

Gotta serious ice storm headin our way tonight, on top of the snow thats still falling here.
by morning we’re lookin at 6 - 13 inches, depending, with a 2 inche layer of ice in between/on top of that.
Sure would luv some of that global warmin algore keeps muttering about....
If the computer models were in any way accurate, they would have accounted for this “anomoly” cooling we are experiencing.
This is a scam. Bigger than televangelism, tv psychics, or even the recently ponzi scheme. Say NO to global socialism.
12-16” here by thursday morning.. I want my global warming back...
Weather folks can’t predict the weather anymore. Here in the Dallas area, we were supposed to be getting some bad ice. So far, it’s staying north and west of us.
I’ve noticed a trend to overpredict, perhaps practicing “defensive meterology.” They don’t want to be blamed if they understimated the storm, so they overestimate, over-warn. It’s part of the overall loss of commonsense among the populace, the childishness of so many people. It used to be, they warned in a commonsense way, we took responsibility for dealing with it. If it turned out worse than the predictions, we shrugged and went on coping with it.
But with 24-hour news cycle and immature, ungrown-up journalists chosen for their looks, we get a cry-baby, weeping and wailing over-reporting of the over-predictions because, well, that’s how, you know, like, that’s how, you know, the Valley Girls do journalism today.
And the anchor woman says to the meterorologist... “so wheres that 8 inches you promissed me last night?”
Well so what if global warming is not true! Why take a chance?
I think it was 6 inches, but who's counting. :O)
Speak for yourself. 8^)
Same here in San Antonio: they’ve been having ice-gasms in the weather centers since last night, but haven’t seen nary a crystal yet.
Colonel, USAFR
It finally hit in the DFW area and everything is closed. Of course the news stations are going nuts. Apparently there is no other news worth reporting today.
That’s how they get here, too. Last night was supposed to be atrocious, and by the time the sun came up - well, the SUN came up! Not a cloud in the sky, though it was cold. Hope it stays north.
