Regulation-Free Enterprise Zones (Vanity)
self | self

Posted on 01/27/2009 5:43:11 AM PST by Puddleglum

I think the Republican congress should propose regulation-free enterprise zones (free enterprise zones)in which businesses can operate underhindered by burdensome fed regulations and, if they prosper, reciprocate the favor through taxes on their profits.

Such zones would be for businesses needed to secure energy independence and revive the national economy; they could include but not be limited to: nuclear energy/plant construction, coal mining and oil/gas drilling, auto and electronics manufacting, etc. Tasks that a) involve real creation of wealth and products, and b) make our nation less dependent on the whims of foreign markets.

Lift most fed regulations (al onerous ones) and see if the businesses don't thrive moreso than they would otherwise. See if relieving the burdens of regulation doesn't jump start economic development at little cost to the gov and bring wealth and new jobs to said enterprise zones.

I offer this as an alternative to throwing taxpayer dollars at every congessman's vote-buying sweetheart business buddy. Also, I offer it as a chance to make things of real value, rather than pass out as many golden parachutes as possible to the ruling class before the real crash comes.

Do you REALLY want a nuclearn plant to be built with out those “bothersome” federal regulations?

You probably should rethink this..

Dear Mod,

I did not see anything in my post that was out of line with most discussion in these parts. That said, out of deference to your judgment and Jim’s board rules, here’s my rephrase:

Freedom from regulation is better than living in the shadow of Big Mother, who bosses a lot and delivers little. If we are not willing to take reasonable risks in achieving economic security, we will dwindle to as a nation to insignificance, a bureaucrat-pandering class.

Hells bells, even France has nuke plants. One should not let one’s mind be clouded by prevalent liberalism.

I am endlessly amazed at the number of so-called conservatives who will defend the FedGov and make spurious arguments/appeals to fear to do so. Desperate times take sane measures to survive, and relieving undue burden on business ought to be chief among them. But if we want this thread to dwindle to the childish level “of nuke plants in our backyard,” maybe someone can summon the ghost of Karen Silkwood or Sissy Spacek or, barring that, Cher. Then informed discussion can ensue.
