She was a lawyer for big tobacco, her dad is a lobbyist at the state capitol, and she took some time off last summer during the collapse to have a second kid on the senate free health care program (just in case people actually found out about her and she lost in November). Her first election campaign was a big muckraking smear and her second was as well. Instead of actually saying she opposed the war in Iraq, her response was Obama-like saying she supported the troops. So now NY is without a congressman/woman and upstaters not equally represented in DC. Lose, lose ,lose situation.

Thanks. I should have explained better though. I meant that the main people voting against him would come from upstate (at least in a general election). Isn’t that area typically more conservative and Republican leaning?

I guess that’s good for us upstate, assuming she stays that way in the Senate, I hope anyway. But she can always go left.

She'll be fundraising constantly for almost four years.

Don't all politicians do that all the time?

She's not nearly as good looking as Sarah!

But she is cute.

She’s a liberal pro-abort. She was, however, less bad than any of the other candidates, given that Democrats run the stte. So it’s not a terrible pick.

In 2007 NARAL Pro-Choice America gave Representative Gillibrand a grade of 100.

As much as anywhere in New York these days. The major Democrat areas are Greater New York, the Albany area, and Erie County. But they have enough votes to keep the state solidly blue.
