Surprising pretty much everyone, NY Governor David Patterson is expected to announce today that he has selected upstate conservative Democrat Kirsten Gillibrand to fill the seat vacated by new Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, infuriating the Dems who had been aggressively lobbying behind the scenes for the patronage peach.

This woman is NRA endorsed, anti-pork barrel/earmarks and has a few other things to commend her. I suspect she’s rapidly pro-abortion, but of the choices she’s far and away the best.

Is this really true (all NYers)??

A glimmer of hope in the darkness.

In 2007 NARAL Pro-Choice America gave Representative Gillibrand a grade of 100.

I’m sure NY will send another flaming liberal like Schumer to the Senate in 2010.

Yeah, let’s all jump for joy because of a phony bruhahaha ginned up by a bunch of libs on both sides. Gillibrand is a NYC liberal and any gestures made towards conservatism were made purely for political expedience.

Has Harry Reed said anything about refusing to seat her yet?

As an outsider looking in, I would assume this is smart move on Patterson’s part as he looks towards running for a full term as Governor. Wouldn’t his main opposition come from upstate?

Oh, yes, the moment she left NYC and came up to Saratoga County, she became ‘more conservative’ to represent one of the most conservative congressional districts in the state.

Anyone taking bets on how ‘conservative’ this protege of Chuck Schumer will be once she represents the whole state?

His main opposition will probably be Rudy, though Cuomo may unseat him for the nomination first.

Gillibrand should do well, since she’s duped some upstaters into thinking that she’s ‘conservative’, which is a total pantload. But just look at the number of FReepers that fall for the same thing? It’s no wonder everything’s so screwed these days...

“conservative Democrat”
Isn't that an oxymoron? Kinda like Government ethics?

Patterson is looking out for his own interests. He knows he can’t win without upstate support.

I did not say I’d vote for her. I don’t vote pro-abortion. But she seems to be a much better choice than anyone else on the menu

Maybe we can get her to switch parties. Then we’d have one Republican in the Senate.

Sh may well be a few centillas less further left than the worst of them.

But I believce NARAL gave her a grade of 100. She's not a conservative. She may score a little better by NRA...but I would like to see what GOA and JPFO say about her anyway...and my guess is that those two will nothave much good at all to say about her as regards RKBA.

IT'S TIME FOR A RETURN TO THE OLD SCHOOL

There is no way she is a conservative. Maybe fiscally we can hope, but anyone recommended by Chuckie is not a conservative. Those howling liberals must not have been at the briefing where Chuckie described why she was a good pick.

my guess, a deal was cut, either a blue dog, or something real messy was going to break on Caroline. Now all her "troubles" will just fade away.
