Yesterday's inaugural ceremony benediction by the Reverend Dr. Joseph Lowery certainly has caused a bit of a stir - at least among those of us who pay attention. My short little harmless commentary on yesterday's closing prayer called "This Is A Benediction?" has received a host of responses on Free Republic.com and at Roman Around.
Indeed, I do very much enjoy engaging in debate. When I receive opposing viewpoints that are not riddled with expletives and personal attacks, I like to take them on. Occassionally I'll even post them.
This is just such an occassion.
Someone called "Judi" took issue with my disdain at yesterday's benediction - particularly the closing.
Recall that Reverend Lowery said:
We ask you to help us work for that day when black will not be asked to get in back when brown can stick around when yellow will be mellow when the red man can get ahead, man and when white will embrace what is right
I'll address Judi's points one by one.
Judi wrote:
My my my. Who knew that something so simple would turn into such a mess.

Its called racism Judi. Demeaning an entire race on the basis of skin color is wrong, Judi. Right?
WOW, Judi, so racist statements are just fine so long as they are "simple"...? Don't criticize racists so long as they confine their bigotry to "simple" utterances?
That would be almost funny, Judi, if the implications were not so disgusting.
exactly, we’re going to have 4 years of hate spew
And it's come whole out of the closet.
"Frederick Douglass IV . . . is working with actors and educators to bring his ancestor's determined vision to life. Mr. Douglass says the basic message for young black Americans is to persevere. 'If [people like my great-great grandfather] could come to this world as slaves,' he says, 'and leave the plantations with little more than what they had on their backs and become the doctors, lawyers and leaders that they are, then you have absolutely no excuse but to move forward.'"
This Douglas guy and his offspring are they a family of them insensitive, bigoted, oppressive white people holdin' down black, brown, yellow, and red?
Don't look white but they sure sound like them crazy white people oppressin' everybody but themselves.
(A mite bit of sarcasm.)
.. no wait! I get it. Frederick Douglass was an Oreo cookie! Just like Michael Steele, Kenneth Balckwell, Lynn Swann, Dr. Thomas Sowell, Dr. Walter Williams, . . . .
Voice of America, I believe.
The audacity lies with those on the Left who continue to foster these divides between races.
Yes.
And believe me there is not a racist electron in my body. As God is my witness, the race of a human being is absolutely of no consequence when making decisions, arriving at judgments, or ascertaining character.
Kind of like Dr. King said.
Right on and Amen to that!
Also a shout out to lady lawyer a fellow FReeper.

Oops messed up on italicizing your whole quote. Here is the corrected version. Apologies.
