Working to refurbish a historic landmark is a daunting task for any architect. Redesigning a historic landmark that weighs over 27,000 tons (24,300 metric tons) and floats could be considered a nightmare! Fortunately, the right architect, coupled with a skilled fabricator and supplier, equate to innovative solutions and aesthetically successful results.
Only four of the original 24 Essex-Class aircraft carriers exist today. One calls New York City its home, the USS Intrepid. Known as the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum since its founding in 1982, the attraction is a staple for tourists visiting the Big Apple.

Does it include the new underwater airplane exhibit?
(OK, you have to admit your post has some irony to it).
Maybe that is why the US Airways jet parked so near it!
Isn’t this museum run by the guy tapped to be NavySec?
They also (at least used to) have a cool camp for kids, mainly scouts, where you stayed on-board and “lived life as a seaman”.Slept in the bumks, learned about duty stations, etc.
On the Fox News Cavuto program Neil Cavuto is talking to the President of the Intrepid organization and they are offering room to the Bank of America rescuees (Intrepid Sponsor Organization). My EXTREME compliments to the air crew for apparent skill and safety with no reported casualties.
Kind of like Neverland Ranch...
Left on a cruise ship next to the Intrepid in early October.
Good to see her back.
Pilot error. He missed the third wire.
Yes, that’s O’s pick.

Post or FReepmail me if you wish to be enlisted in or discharged from the Navair Pinglist.
The only requirement for inclusion in the Navair Pinglist is an interest in Naval Aviation.
This is a medium to low volume pinglist.
It's a pleasure to see the Fighting 'I' in this good a shape; I wonder if the Sonar Dome is still there? (or did it get scraped off moving her?) Can you get a tour of Sonar, up forward of 'officers country'?
I was on her last War Cruise, '68-'69, the last Med Cruise, and the last EastLant Cruise '70-'72. Two years in Weapons Dept. as BM in 2nd Div, blackshoe ordie in 'G' Div, and back to chipping paint in 1-A Div.
After Yard period in Philly, got sent to Sonar 'C' school in Key West, then last two years in Ops. Dept. OS Div.
Maybe, if I can build up my immune system, I'll get a chance to visit the old girl.
'Slinger On a separate but related note; 'Blue Water Navy' Vietnam Veterans who have contracted one of the Non-Hodgkins Lymphomas now qualify for Disability from the Department of Veterans Affairs.
NOTE: this has nothing to do with Agent Orange, or the 'Haas vs. DVA' court case; it's based on US Code Title 38 CFR 3.313 and is unrelated to 'herbicides'.
Bottom Line; if you have NHL, and you earned a Vietnam Service Medal in the Navy offshore Vietnam, you qualify for benefits, regardless of whether you had 'Boots on the Ground'.
As soon as it's confirmed, (i.e. somebody gets his rating) I'll post an article here. Till then, if anyone has any questions please Freepmail me, I'll get back to you asap.
