Before we get into this op ed, I have to relate a bit of history first. I originally posted this on Sunday on my NewsBusters.org posting. It raged all day Sunday and into the night among Palin fans and center right bloggers. Lucianne.com, FreeRepublic and many other sites linked to the story. Gretta Van Susteren even posted about it on her FoxNews blog (It garnered 4 pages of comments there, too).
Well by the time Monday morning arrived, CNN quietly and without explanation or apology erased Sarah Palin from the article I describe below.
Showing they have no sense of morality, no grasp of corruption and no understanding of what defines a criminal, CNN gives us another one of those ubiquitous year in review stories, this one titled "Politicians who fell from grace in 2008." In this one, CNN has decided to reveal for us their top eight politicians that found 2008 to be a "career-buster" because of their "crimes and misdemeanors" or their outrageous controversies.
CNN features corruption mired Rod Blagojevich, the sex crazed Elliot Spitzer and John Edwards, and the criminal bribe taker Ted Stevens among four others. Each of these men in the CNN list have either been convicted of criminal actions, are indicted for corruption, lost their positions, been drummed out of their party, or are soon to face jail time. Among these eight criminals, however, is a name that doesn't belong among this class of serial abuser of the public trust. It won't be shocking to note that among the worst sex criminals, bribe takers, liars and thieves in politics for 2008, CNN ridiculously included the name of Governor Sarah Palin.
Palin, however, has done nothing remotely like what these other political ner-do-wells have done. She did not take bribes, she did not indulge in sexual dalliances with co-workers or call girls, she did not get booted from her party or lose her job as Governor. She is not under indictment nor does she face jail time, yet CNN includes her in a list with Rob Blagojevich, John Edwards, Kwame Kilpatrick, Larry Langford, Tim Maloney, Elliot Spitzer and Ted Stevens.
This CNN slide show is based on the idea that these eight politicians have fallen from grace because of their criminal actions. Many of them have lost their political office either by being thrown out, voted out or having resigned. Some of them are about to go to jail and nearly all of them took bribes and illicit freebies and then made false statements to investigators as well as filing false tax statements. Seven of these politicians are criminals and right there, before our eyes, CNN has Sarah Palin among them.

It seems to me this is now beyond politics and is nothing but libel, an accitionable act. I’d love Sarah to sue CNN and win.
As unbelievable as this us to us, the hoi poloi believe it.
The MSM has effectively destroyed Sarah’s political career, and their relentless savagery, even though the presidential race is over, is intended to guarantee that there will be no resurrection of her dead political life.
And no one will question CNN-Obama, nor call them out. This is because The Sheep agree with them, and obey.
Libel law is very flexible around the edges, particularly here in America. Sarah Palin is a public figure and for that reason, anything goes.

• Refused to join other candidates on stage because of the abortion and drilling in Alaska views
• Tried to get her ex-brother-in-law fired improperly
• Thought Africa was a country
• Had an affair with her husband's ex-business partner
• Made victims of rape pay for their own rape kits
• Said she could see Alaska from her house
• Had a “witch doctor” as a spiritual adviser
• Cut the special needs budget
• Banned books
• Was a member of a fringe party
• Forced creationism to be taught in schools
(Truth be told, I only know this because Jon Stewart made jokes about these things. But a funny guy like that'd never mislead a member of his audience, aka “Young Idiots”)
It’s also to serve as warning for any “upitty” conservatives who’d dare speak out for conservativism or the Constitution (just look at how the shadow government used the full strength of government databases to smear Joe the Plumber).
Either Sarah will cave in, which I don’t think she’ll do or she’ll fight back. I think she’ll choose the latter but I thought the Patriots would be the Giants in the Super Bowl.
I really doubt that they've destroyed her political career. It's much more likely that they are destroying their own credibility.
Obama’s election has only further emboldened the MSM to do what they want, slaughter the first amendment, and basically be live versions of liberal bloggers. There is no accountability so they will continue to run amuck at the marching orders of the DNC and Obama Administration.
Just checked the site - Palin is not even listed. What gives?

I wish you were right, but most of the people I talk to here in New England believe virtually *ALL* the lies listed in post 7 above.

Yes, this implies that her detractors can be humiliatingly discredited, as was Dan Rather.
So far, that just has not happened.
The MSM won’t let it happen, this time.
Palin will cave - because she will not want her children and grandchildren to be subjected to the hate of the Left and the contempt of the Right.
And the Left knows this.

Well I am from New England and I believe that - but most people in New England believe they are elitists and smarter than the rest - but a lot of my friends only THINK that they really are pretty idiotic w/ their views and ideas about the world as a whole. They sit there and watch John Stewart, Colbert and SNL and take that as news - yet they think they are smart! She doesn’t fit into the country club New England society and therefore, she is dumb and they will believe what they want - Wait until Obama becomes a total disaster and their wallets start getting picked - since most New Englanders have more money than God... I will sit back and smirk and just keep pointing out all his mistakes to my friends and say - maybe you should reevaluate your original opinions (at least that’s what I’m hoping for) - my spoiled friends need a lesson in life and what it means to actually go through some hard times and wake up to reality.
