I case you were wondering... Deepak Chopra is not just ignorant he is dangerous. From his letter to Barack Obama:
The following is a memo to Barack Obama from Deepak Chopra
You have been elected by the first anti-war constituency since 1952, when Dwight D. Eisenhower was elected after promising to end the Korean War. But ending a war isn't the same as bringing peace. America has been on a war footing since the day after Pearl Harbor, 67 years ago. We spend more on our military than the next 16 countries combined. If you have a vision of change that goes to the heart of this country's deep problems, ending our dependence on war is far more important than ending our dependency on foreign oil.
The most immediate changes are economic. Unless it can make as much money as war, peace doesn't stand a chance. Since aerospace and military technologies remain the United States' most destructive export, fostering wars around the world, what steps can we take to reverse that trend and build a peace-based economy?
1. Scale out arms dealing and make it illegal by the year 2020.
2. Write into every defense contract a requirement for a peacetime project.
3. Subsidize conversion of military companies to peaceful uses with tax incentives and direct funding.
4. Convert military bases to housing for the poor.
5. Phase out all foreign military bases.
6. Require military personnel to devote part of their time to rebuilding infrastructure.
7. Call a moratorium on future weapons technologies.
8. Reduce armaments like destroyers and submarines that have no use against terrorism and were intended to defend against a superpower enemy that no longer exists.
9. Fully fund social services and take the balance out of the defense and homeland security budgets.
Sheesh... This guy is a flaming loon. He's sounding more like Cindy Sheehan every day.
First he made his mark by betraying his mentor, Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, and making a counterfeit version of the much more complex and well-founded theories put forward by the master Yogi. Then he became a pop star. Now he believes his own PR about himself. Once a backstabber, always a backstabber.
how did this memo find its way into the public domain?
Ignore this liberal fool. I am ashamed that he shares his Indian ethnicity with me. We have our fair share of lefty loons here as well. :-/
He should crawl back under the rock he crawled out from.
I classify him with Rosie and Roseann Barr.
If he immigrated to this great country, the question would be why? Leave us alone. How did he ever get a sounding board?
Anti-war needs to embrace an explicit rejection of Jihad.
4. Convert military bases to housing for the poor.
I'm all for shipping the poor to the middle of the Nevada desert, the Phillipines, Iraq....
For this new age wanker to be "dangerous" he would have to be taken seriously. And he's about as likely to be taken seriously as is Barbara Streisand or Susan Sarandon.
The man is delusional.
Chopra Sounds like someone that would be embraced by Al Frankendoodle and comedy central.......The coneheads.
1. Scale out arms dealing and make it illegal by the year 2020.
Most of the large scale arms dealing is by nations. So what if Russia and China say no to your request that they stop arms dealing...go to war to stop them?
2. Write into every defense contract a requirement for a peacetime project.
So you're going to require all defense companies to develop a separate division to work on public works even though they have no expertise at it? All this will accomplish is massively increasing the military budget and buy some second rate public works...hope you're prepared for that is going to cost and create.
3. Subsidize conversion of military companies to peaceful uses with tax incentives and direct funding.
So you're going to take the companies that supply your military and encourage them to stop making products for you and do something else? This is doubly stupid because you'll have the expense of enticing them to do something else along with the increased costs for the materials you need in the first place.
4. Convert military bases to housing for the poor.
Uhhh...what are you going to do with your military...force billet them in our houses?
5. Phase out all foreign military bases.
Some could be phased out, but this says "all" bases. OK, so our reaction time to world emergencies will be slow, dangerous and costly. I'm sure that was at the core of his plan all along.
6. Require military personnel to devote part of their time to rebuilding infrastructure.
And if they are going to be working as construction workers why wouldn't they just join a construction company instead of the military...the pay is likely to be better? This is a sure fire way to destroy troop enlistment and retention.
7. Call a moratorium on future weapons technologies.
Great, so you want only your future enemies to have advanced weaponry...so what if it costs the lives of untold soldiers?
8. Reduce armaments like destroyers and submarines that have no use against terrorism and were intended to defend against a superpower enemy that no longer exists.
Perhaps he's not heard of China or Russia...so I'll just allow him the possibility of stunning ignorance of world geopolitics (he is clearly a liberal, after all). Interestingly though, he does appear to support military action on terrorism, just not with submarines and destroyers.
9. Fully fund social services and take the balance out of the defense and homeland security budgets.
Now he's down to it, all he wants to really do is defund the military and national security in whole.
10. Please remove all clothes and step in to the “showers”.
INTREP
Mr. Chopra gratuitously invoked the name of President Eisenhower in a very intellectually dishonest way.
To set the historical record straight it is now known that President Eisenhower had to twice threaten nuclear strikes against China in order to eventually enforce a hard won peace on the Korean peninsula.
The historical lesson to be drawn from the Eisenhower era is that diplomacy is only effective when backed by the credible use of force. The Clinton Administration illustrated the futility of diplomatic posturing which lacked the credible use of military power.
Chopra is a certified charlatan- take it from this Catholic South Asian who has followed his career. His New Age BS appeals to the kind of Hollywood retards. He has made millions of dollars peddling this crap and now lives like a celebrity in La Jolla and is promoting his imbecile son to succeed him. Fools like Larry King and Bill O’Reilly provide this cretin with a platform for his views and his books. PBS was his vehicle to fame. One good reason never to give PBS a penny of your money. Bill Moyer is the other reason.
2. Write into every defense contract a requirement for a peacetime project.
Many defense contractors do work outside of defense - consider non DoD contracts such as HUD, DOE(Energy), USPS, etc.
3. Subsidize conversion of military companies to peaceful uses with tax incentives and direct funding.
Mistake - more government interference with corporations....b/c it worked so well with Fannie and Freddie
4. Convert military bases to housing for the poor.
Many times they are, look at some of the BRAC examples.
5. Phase out all foreign military bases.
6. Require military personnel to devote part of their time to rebuilding infrastructure.
Use the Military for fighting, not building roads, offices, housing, etc.
7. Call a moratorium on future weapons technologies.
Disaster. Keep the technology edge in the U.S.
8. Reduce armaments like destroyers and submarines that have no use against terrorism and were intended to defend against a superpower enemy that no longer exists.
China just ordered two 60000 ton aircraft carriers...
9. Fully fund social services and take the balance out of the defense and homeland security budgets.
Too much welfare spending now. Keep spending on defense and education - that will keep us safe, build wealth and secure innovative technologies will be developed in the U.S.
