Encounter with a bear. My husband and I were startled out of bed at 2am with my car alarm ringing loudly throughout the neighborhood. Thinking to myself -no one locks their car doors up here, there aren't burglers. Only to find out a bear had opened my car door, climbed in (I assume searching for food), and proceeded to get shut in when the car door closed behind him. One can only imagine what a bear can do to the interior of your car while stuck there for an hour and a half. (see attached picture). The bear finally shattered the back seat window to make his escape leaving behind $9700 dollars of wreckage! (ps - I did not have food in my car and I found out the next day the bear had gotten into the neighbors car, only his door did not close on the bear locking him in) Believe it or not, the bear was back the next evening - evidence of paw prints on my husband's truck and another neighbor's vehicle. Guess where the paw prints were - yep, the door handles.
? Did ya have to repost this again ? Wha Happened ???
Yet another bear story near here. I never reported my 4 incidents this year. This is a very prominent real estate broker in this area that had this car break-in.
I don’t know what you mean about them having to repost this again but...for those of us out here who had not seen this...we’re glad they DID. Wow.
Well at least the bear is probably a natural born American bear as opposed to someone else. :-)
This is a different bear break-in. probably 8 miles away from the other one I posted.
Where was this at?
Ahhh......, understand. y’all have a drought up there this year reducing the food supply or is yogi developing a taste for store bought goodies ?
garage
Holy sh*t! Looks like a Ford Fusion or what is left of it.
Car for sale: Bearly a scratch!
We actually have had numerous bear problems, but never reported them to this site. One bear broke out a window trying to get inside while we were out of town. Our dog certainly fought it off as it did not get in. The whole window frame was pushed in as well as the dryer vent louviers clawed out. The claw marks were very clear on all the damage. Our dog is now gone from limphoma cancer. Shadow was a great dog and I miss him even today.
An acquaintance lived in a condo in the mountains where the black bears roam. The front door of the condo was an automatically triggered one that had a sensor on it. She used to worry that she would come down in the elevator one morning and meet a bear that had accidentally triggered the door in the small lobby.
This was west of Denver at the entrance to Coal Creek Canyon. I posted a report of another bear-car break in today, but that was a separate incident. I hear that there are over 100 bear damage incidents in the 50-mile radius every year.
Wow sounds like some aggressive bears....., as well sorry about your pup. The loss of a good friend like that is tough.
In Alaska when we had such problems we’d put some panels down that were basically home made spike strips from wood screws and plywood or sheet metal. Placed em under windows, in front of doors on steps etc when we left for the day. Bears are for the most part tenderfoots in that regards.
You may also try the hot wire trick around the perimeter of your property or at least close in to the home. Simple little stinger that makes yogi leave property alone pretty good.
Because of incidents like this, I’ll never buy the explanation that the Second Amendment protects the right to arm bears.
Shadow climbed about 40 of the 14,000 ft peaks in Colorado with me as well as numerous lower peaks. He was a great climber, but also rode on my shoulder on difficult sections. He was a Belgian Sheepdog and lived to 9 years old.
Hmmm, which deductable level, collision or comprehensive?
We discovered that a bear investigated our pop up trailer that is stored on our property outside of Yosemite. He or she ripped into the awning bag and ripped off the outside electrical outlet. My hubby reported large muddy paw prints with claws.
We haven’t got an estimate as yet, but perhaps in the next week or two I will bring it down.
