The continuing efforts of a fringe group of conservatives to deny Obama his victory and to lay the basis for the claim that he is not a legitimate president is embarrassing and destructive. The fact that these efforts are being led by Alan Keyes, an unhinged demagogue on the political fringe who lost a senate election to the then unknown Obama by 42 points should be a warning in itself.
This tempest over whether Obama, the child of an American citizen, was born on American soil is tantamount to the Democrats' seditious claim that Bush "stole" the election in Florida and hence was not the legitimate president. This delusion helped to create the Democrats' Bush derangement syndrome and encouraged Democratic leaders to lie about the origins of the Iraq War, and regard it as illegitimate as Bush himself. It became "Bush's War" rather than an American War with destructive consequences for our troops and our cause.
The Birth Certificate zealots are essentially arguing that 64 million voters should be disenfranchised because of a contested technicality as to whether Obama was born on U.S. soil. (McCain narrowly escaped the problem by being born in the Panama Canal zone, which is no longer American.)
Well said
For someone who throws around accusations that we haven’t read the constitution, you really have no idea what it says.
And any naturalized citizen can get an US passport as well. It means nothing to the argument over Obama’s legitimacy.
Yes, I do.
The fact that Pravda has already raised the question of validity of treaties and agreements signed by Obama tells me that just leaving the question unanswered is going to cause major problems.
Then there’s the possibility of American soldiers being seized by a country accusing them of operating unlawfully under orders of an illegitimate leader.
The constitutional cowards need to man up and defend it, unless they’re hoping for failure in which case they aren’t Americans in my eyes.
David was an OLR or Original Leftist Radical—now born-again hard right. So he knows how the American socialists think.
One should take his advice seriously.
If the GOP had followed his teachings in the past we would now not only have huge Republican majorities on Capital Hill but GOP Presidents as far as the future would allow—and every one a true conservative.
Still, before I can forget about BHO’s BC,I would like to see it.
My son needed HIS every time he went out for football.I should think going out for POTUS would require the same in the least.
If you had read the constitution you would know that it didn't matter where John Quincy Adams was born as long as he was a citizen.
Article 2, Section 1, Clause 5 of the Constitution:
No person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President; neither shall any Person be eligible to that Office who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty-five Years, and been fourteen Years a Resident within the United States.
yes, but in our case there’s no excuse. We have history to learn from but apparently we’ve not learned much.
I’ve read the Constitution and the Federalist papers with regard to the 14th Amendment. And as for the Supreme Court, don’t even go there that they follow the Constitution to the intent, if they did, the Heller case would have been 9-0.
If he is ineligible, I can promise you someone will out him, it is just a matter of time. However, would it be better to know for sure, BEFORE the electoral college meets or after he has been inaugurated?
IMHO, the entire conflict between liberals and conservatives regarding Obama’s Constitutional qualifications boils down to how each side handles injustice.
In the Old Testament we are shown a Holy God on the Mercy Seat in the Tabernacle/Temple has being flanked by a cherub on one side representing perfect Righteousness and on the other side, a facing cherub representing perfect Justice.
Whenever exposed to unrighteousness, His perfect Justice demanded perfect Righteousness, and whenever exposed to injustice, His perfect Righteousness demanded perfect Justice.
The application of those perspectives in our legal system is established by a Legislative Branch discriminating the rules between righteousness and unrighteousness, a Judicial Branch judging issues of perceived unrighteousness before them, and an Executive Branch exercising the operations in support of the nation by the rules of the Legistlature and Judgment of the Judicial Branch.
IMHO, this is essentially the conservative view, while the liberal view has attempted to promote policies of righteousness which are only righteous in their own eyes, while perceiving justice as an execution of punishment or hinderance to that which is righteous in the eyes of the liberals. Their Justice doesn’t demand righteousness when faced with unrighteousness, rather they perceive all righteousness is relative and no justice is required unless they alone perceive unrighteousness.
In a nutshell, they do not respect God given rights in part because they really don’t believe in God. Without God, there can be no God given rights, rather merely a policy of might makes right in a relative fashion, being righteous in their own eyes.
"The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants."
Even if this doesn't pan out, I like the fact that Hussien is playing defense. I want him on defense for 4 years-no matter how trivial the “issue” is. I don't care if it makes me look foolish-I intend to do my little part to make democrats miserable. After what they did to President Bush during his term, it's ALL on the table. Everyday. If that makes me a wingnut-so be it.
Also Obama could resolve this whole issue by just releasing his birth certificate for all to examine for the sake of full disclosure. I'll show him mine.
Everything pertaining to Obama is sealed, his heath records, his grades, his thesis, his BC, everything! Oh, and nobody is allowed to talk to anyone in his family. And to top it off, his only history with regard to being a Senator is running for President and voting present.
I think you skipped the part where the framers EXCLUDED THEMSELVES from the “natural born” part.
I’m still scratching my head over how this guy was nominated, much less elected.
