Obama Derangement Syndrome ... Conservatives Need to Shut Up About the Birth Certificate
HNN ^ | December 6, 2008 | David Horowitz

Posted on 12/07/2008 1:48:09 AM PST by malkee

The continuing efforts of a fringe group of conservatives to deny Obama his victory and to lay the basis for the claim that he is not a legitimate president is embarrassing and destructive. The fact that these efforts are being led by Alan Keyes, an unhinged demagogue on the political fringe who lost a senate election to the then unknown Obama by 42 points should be a warning in itself.

This tempest over whether Obama, the child of an American citizen, was born on American soil is tantamount to the Democrats' seditious claim that Bush "stole" the election in Florida and hence was not the legitimate president. This delusion helped to create the Democrats' Bush derangement syndrome and encouraged Democratic leaders to lie about the origins of the Iraq War, and regard it as illegitimate as Bush himself. It became "Bush's War" rather than an American War with destructive consequences for our troops and our cause.

The Birth Certificate zealots are essentially arguing that 64 million voters should be disenfranchised because of a contested technicality as to whether Obama was born on U.S. soil. (McCain narrowly escaped the problem by being born in the Panama Canal zone, which is no longer American.)

You can always count on David Horowitz. Check out some of the comments on the original article. There are some good arguments.

“You can always count on David Horowitz.”

You can always count on David Horowitz for what?

> Conservatives are supposed to respect the organic nature of human societies.

That isn’t in any definiton of “Conservatism” that I am aware of.

> Ours has been riven by profound disagreements that have been deepening over many years. We are divided not only about political facts and social values, but also about what the Constitution itself means.

Only if you take the “Constitution is a living document” approach to the Constitution. If you instead take the Constitution at face value it is reasonably straightforward.

> The crusaders on this issue choose to ignore these problems and are proposing to deny the will of 64 million voters by appealing to 5 Supreme Court Justices

Yup. As the 2002 election amply demonstrated, the Rule of Law trumps the Will of the People, every time. If you do not like the Rule of Law, then the Will of the People can change the Law, using processes that the Rule of Law puts in place. It’s simple, really.

> (since no one is delusional enough to think that the 4 liberal justices are going to take the presidency away from Obama).

I’d like to think that the “liberal” justices would do what is right for America on such a fundamental issue. That might be naively optimistic, but I think the Supreme Court deserves the Respect and Benefit of the Doubt.

> What kind of conservatism is this?

Proper lowercase-c conservatism.

Everything is speculation until the original birth certificate is seen. Sure, Obama probably is perfectly eligible to be president. But that’s the whole point, “probably” is not good enough.

Who cares what the arguments are in these various suits, every argument has validity when it’s guesswork without the facts on the table.

There has got to be more to this than any of us know, why else is the entire government, left and right, legislative, executive and judicial, all scared to death to ask for a birth certificate? My guess is they have already seen it, including possibly the president himself, and we never will.

Well, it goes along with our preference for tradition and prejudice over the positive law and utopianism of liberals. Also, our trust in gradual rather than radical change. Russell Kirk spoke of an “Affection for the proliferating variety and mystery of human existence,” which I think applies.

The moonbats are staring to get their panties in a bunch. That means they're getting nervous. Good. Do I think that the BC issue will result in the One getting the boot? No, but nothing is better than watching libtards soil themselves(figuratively)

I don’t think this whole birth certificate mess is going to go anywhere. But I think it’s telling about Obama that he could have blown this out of the water very early on by simply providing the correct documentation...and he didn’t. It shows an arrogance, a “how dare you” mentality, that I don’t think will be a good thing in the coming years, for him or for America.

Your right. Also, didn't the public and others including Drudge keep pounding clintoon everyday until impeachment proceedings finally started and ended up with his impeachment? Seems like we can do it again with the obamahitler.

NONSENSE. Anytime your have to make your point by claiming the US Constitution is a technicality you really have no real point, just politics.
The is no disenfranchisement because there would be no vote. If the person was not qualified under the LAW (the Constitution) then that fraud is what invalidates the election not the people that believe the law should be enforced.

Yes, but “Organic” implies disorderly and disorganized: rather the same way a fungus or mold develops. Change is not something Conservatives particularly want, but when it must come it is gradual and orderly, rather than sudden and extreme.
