Looks like 250 terrorists picked the wrong day to screw with 30 U.S. Marines in Afghanistan. Frankly, is there ever a good day to screw with the Marines?
In the city of Shewan, approximately 250 insurgents ambushed 30 Marines and paid a heavy price for it. . . .The day started out with a 10-kilometer patrol with elements mounted and dismounted, so by the time we got to Shewan, we were pretty beat, said a designated marksman who requested to remain unidentified. Our vehicles came under a barrage of enemy RPGs (rocket propelled grenades) and machine gun fire. One of our humvees was disabled from RPG fire, and the Marines inside dismounted and laid down suppression fire so they could evacuate a Marine who was knocked unconscious from the blast.

"We're surrounded, that simplifies our problem!"
An opinion that might be subject to some modification at the moment. Basically what happened was that a platoon of Marines drove into an enemy stronghold, broke their ambush, took their town, and kicked their collective ass. It has to be sort of discouraging when you have an order of magnitude advantage, your ground, a prepared ambush zone, the tactical initiative, and you still end up scooting for the toolies with your tail between your legs. Might give the bad guys some pause for thought. The survivors, anyway.
By the way, that "designated marksman" thing? I think the jury's in on that one.
may allah receive all the Mohammedans soon.
Thanks to your son for his service and to you for raising him right.
Sounds like a latter day Alvin York. I hope he gets more than a silver star for his actions, more appropriate would be medal of honor.
This reminds me of all the Hollywood action movies... perhaps the insurgents thought the 8 hour battle was a dress rehearsal?
Maybe you're right, the mutton head jihadis are just as capable as our Marines. Guess it was just luck, huh? Couldn't have anything to do with their shocking ineptitude compared with The Marines' training, discipline, intelligence, equipment and overall excellence.
Me, I think that somehow factored in.
I am giving up on you Owl.

There’s never a good day to screw with the Marines.
Why does someone like you always have to come along and piss on the parade?
20 kills without missing a shot!!!!
I don't even know what to say, except turn them loose and send all those bastards to hell.
250 men, their own territory, a prepared ambush, overpowering them by 10 to 1, and NOT A SERIOUS INJURY TO EVEN ONE MARINE. THANK GOD FOR THE MARINES.
And yet... That's what you proceed to do.
I'm not a Marine. But even I with my limited tactical training has an appreciation for a group of 30 that gets trapped in an ambush of 250 enemy... Where the result is over 50 enemy killed and no Marines killed... That's a pretty good day, all things considered. Some here have said that this "marksman" needs a silver star. Well, at least. That many kills, with no misses, under fire, and I'm OK with at least the Navy Cross for that guy. He saved a lot of lives. Even if he missed once or twice. :-).
That cannot be said enough.
Semper Fi...
By the way.... See what happens when the fighting man is allowed to fight without the bureau rats telling them who they can shoot, when they can shoot, and how they can shoot. Give them what they need, tell them to kill them all till the rest give up, kick the media out of the country, and come back when they are finished. Problem solved.
Semper Fi bump......
LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!
I mean it -- I am here LOL at that one!
