Chris Cillizza at the Washington Post gives us his list. As an inside-baseball junkie, I like these things, but right out of the box he loses his credibility and proves he's just another MSM reporter.
Who are the faces that will emerge to rebuild the Republican party following its decimation at the ballot box in 2006 and 2008? . . .The most notable omission is that of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin. While we expect the former vice presidential nominee will be on this Line in the coming months, she doesn't make it this time around because it is not yet clear how she will find a way to remain in the national dialogue from her far-away outpost in the Last Frontier. Palin is also VERY lightly regarded by many of the opinion leaders and establishment types within the GOP, making it tougher for her to command a leading role.
Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee is also not on the Line -- not because we don't think he is considering a 2012 bid (he is) but because as of today it's not clear what his niche is within the party. His fresh-faced appeal and shtick (and don't get us wrong, we love shtick) may not wear so well a second time around.
Any, and I mean any list of "Republicans to Watch" that does not include Sarah Palin, is by definition, not written by a conservative. Cillizza and the MSM will have to learn their lesson about Palin the hard way - by watching her win.
And I am not a big Huck fan, but a lot of Conservatives are, and the same rules apply.
So, despite these glaring omissions, here's his list.
More . . .

Sarah should be on the list....Huckster was a perfect omission. He does not have any appeal or Shtick...he is the biggest phony I have ever seen. I saw on the View they were fawning all over him...It was on Perez Hilton...lol.
My ONLY worry about Sarah is Iowa and New Hampshire...She needs to win at least one of these states to even have a chance at winning the nomination in 2012...I hope she sets up shop in Iowa especailly. If she can’t win those two she’s toast.

It is a total shame that two states can hold so much sway over the whole populace. Which states had to die to make them kings? That whole thinking is what gave us McQueeg...... We need a lottery on who is first!!!!
Obama and Hillary will wait to Thanksgiving, Nov 27, to announce Hillary to be the SState, and you now way because that same day the Our Country Deserve Better Group will have the New Ads that ask Sarah Palin to run for 2012, and is giving Sarah a Thank you note also.

Mike Pence is not on his list either. But Pence is a Conservative first, a Republican later. Big difference.
Why should we listen to anything somebody who works for the Washington ComPost has to say (thank you Mark Levin) ?
You are right about Mike Pence... a great conservative... and one who should rise to national prominence. I also wold like to see a resurrection of Rick Santorum as he articulates conservatism very well !
This is just the same kind of subterfuge that stuck us with McChurian—some “deep thinker” at the Post wishing out loud for the Repubs to pick another loser. Jindal is the exception here that even the trash in the MSM can’t ignore but let’s face it, the omission of Palin is a clear indication of what this guy is trying to do.
Sarah Palin is a true conservative with name recognition, celebrity status and sex appeal too. Believe me, the MSM KNOWS she can beat Obama in 2012. They’ll say anything and do anything to stop her. They’ll tell any lie, slit any throat, and throw anyone over the cliff to undercut Palin.
The GOP should refuse to participate in the Iowa and NH campaigns.
Czilla sees her mushing across the land on a dog sled I think. Doesn't know about those new inventions - airplanes, satellites, internet - they even have refrigerators up there. Can you believe it?
One activist thing this site can do and we have twoo years to get it done is to DEMAND that Iowa, NH, and Michigan not be first for the GOP. It is ridiculous the amount of time such two small states expect the candidates to be in their state. I don’t care about history or anything else — we need those states gone from picking our candidates. When you get to 5 Feb as a Super Primary date and your candidate is pretty well picked, something is wrong.
Neither NH and IA are reliably Republican and NH allows Dems to pick their candidate on crossover.
States that need to go first are closed primary states — no caucus, no open primary states at the first of the group.
Sidenote: JUST SAY NO to all the candidates that ran in the 2008 primary.
LOL
Where’s Congressman Paul Ryan from Wisconsin?
They put on Romney as our bench at #3? Give the rest of us a break — he is NOT Conservative except when running for office. In the 80’s when President Reagan was President he became an Independent, governed to the left in MA, and now he is listed in the Top 10 and Sarah left off. This is garbage.
He couldn’t buy the primary in 2008 with a very weak bench so he has zero chance in 2012.
Obama should announce all of his cabinet picks on Thanksgiving. While Americans are having turkey dinner, he can say, “These are my turkeys.”
The name of Jon Huntsman, Jr. sounded familiar. He would be, I assume, the son of Jon Huntsman, the Utah governor?
The same Jon Huntsman who, according to “The Politico.com,” believes that the republican party needs to focus more on the environment in order to survive (http://www.politico.com/blogs/scorecard/1108/Utah_governor_critical_of_GOP.html?showall), and was said to be critical of the Bush foreign policy.
Granted, it’s his father, but it’s enough cause to check carefully. If he shares the old man’s views, they could demonstrate their good faith by completing the Clinton assault on Utah and have the entire state declared federal land.
No, he can say “Pardon my turkeys.”
Palin should be on the list. Period. Never mind “not written by a conservative”. If you’re writing a list of ten Republican pols to watch and she’s not on it, it’s simply not a serious list. If she wants to make another run, she’ll figure out how. And that many GOP opinion leaders and establishment types regard her lightly is more a comment upon them than upon her. I can tell you there are several folks I think a lot less of now than I did before Palin was nominated. And in some cases, they were already on my bad list.
Me, I’d put her at #1, over Bobby Jindal (sorry, Bobby, she’s hotter than you, in more ways than the obvious) and push everybody else down one. Which means my state insurance commissioner Steve Poizner drops off. Maybe at some point I could be persuaded to put him in the GOP’s top ten to watch. But not right now. And not over Sarah Palin.
