If McCain had the campaign cash that Obama had, Obama had the campaign cash that McCain had, and McCain had won, the MSM would be saying the following right now and for the next 4 years:
That McCain had bought the presidency by raising more money than any other presidential candidate before him had ever dreamed of raising.

In my day if you said you would, or wouldn't, do something and then you did, or didn't, do it you were a common liar and your word was worthless. You didn't do business with this person and you certainly didn't put them in the highest office in the land!

I think it is more accurate to say that obama was elevated by interested parties/nations (various) to the presidency, and must owe a number of groups quite a bit in terms of favor/obligation.
In monetary terms, it was bought for him, not by him.
