Palin Goes 'Rogue'?

By Robert Stacy McCain on 10.25.08 @ 12:53PM

And not a moment too soon:

Four Republicans close to Palin said she has decided increasingly to disregard the advice of the former Bush aides tasked to handle her, creating occasionally tense situations as she travels the country with them. Those Palin supporters, inside the campaign and out, said Palin blames her handlers for a botched rollout and a tarnished public image — even as others in McCain's camp blame the pick of the relatively inexperienced Alaska governor, and her public performance, for McCain's decline. "She's lost confidence in most of the people on the plane," said a senior Republican who speaks to Palin, referring to her campaign jet. He said Palin had begun to "go rogue" in some of her public pronouncements and decisions.

I said early and often that the Palin rollout -- with the McCain campaign going out of its way to keep Palin away from the media -- was mishandled:

If she can't handle a press conference, how can you argue she's ready to be vice president? This fear-based, defensive, curl-up-inside-your-shell posture toward the press is killing the GOP. It's insane: Treat the press like the enemy and then complain about media bias. Oh, I wish Tony Snow were still alive to explain to these "senior campaign officials" why this approach doesn't work.

If nothing else has been gained in this campaign, at least the "Tucker Bounds School" of Republican media strategy has been exposed as the wrongheaded nonsense it is.

What would you prefer:

A) Sarah Palin does what she wants to do

B) Leftover Bush operatives decide the direction of her campaign

I VOTE FOR "A"

This is the money line:

“If she can’t handle a press conference, how can you argue she’s ready to be vice president?”

Let’s agree for a moment...Now, would someone explain to me exactly when it was that Obama has actually conducted a press conference (and I’m not talking about the idol-crotch-groping that the media does with him every time they are able to ask him a question.

It does feels like she’s being gagged all the time. It reminds me of bush, who never fight back and consntantly a punching bag for the media

Sounds like a complete garbage story from the Obama camp. They are desperately looking at any way to get Republicans to stay home. Another desperate ploy. Don’t believe it!

Yes, she does. But I seriously doubt there is this kind of “dissent” on that plane. This is all campaign subterfuge to instill apprehension and misgivings about her. I still say bullshit.

They did the same damn thing to Bob Dole. If he would have shown the American people who he really was he probably would have won the election!

There should be no dissent. Sarah gets to do what she wants to do, campaign staffers help her.

Go Rouge Sarah! on’t listen to any of the Bush People. They have fundamentally misunderstood that the power of the presidency is in the big microphone. Reagan knew that, worked to spread conservative ideas. Bush, like his father, doesn’t have a clue. You go girl! Don’t take political advice from someone who though Scott McClellan would be a good spokesman or that Harriet Miers would be a good choice for the Supreme Court. For that matter don’t listen to the old guy who thinks Andrew Cuomo would be a good secretary of the treasury. Sarah, you are the only reason this thing is remotely competitive. Go rouge lady, go rouge!!

The campaign has botched her roll-out—no brainer.

Those interviews were NOT designed to learn about Sarah.

They sent her in totally unprepared, NO ONE would have done any better being asked some of those ridiculous and condescending questions.

And they did NOTHING to counter the affect, NOTHING.

As far as I’m concerned, she’s a rogue because they left her twisting in the wind and at her own devices.

“Tucker Bounds School”

LOL

Everytime I see that guy on TV, I am thinking, “hey, wait a minute, why is he not in class”. He looks and talks like a 14 year old kid. I am sure he is a nice guy. But the MSM is a shark pit. We need to articulate our positions better. Tucker Bounds represents everything that is wrong with the McCain Campaign.

Ignored Bush aides? GOOD,,, i love her even more.
Those geniuses have *horribly* botched the PR at every turn.
Bush credentials on the resume are meaningless to me,, think McClellan, Bremer, Freeh, Paulsen, Panetta, Powell,,need we go on?

I wish she’d very publically fire them,,, they are moere interested in Bush’s legacy thing than her election IMO.

I agree Gov. Palin should ‘go rogue,’ but she has a fine line to walk. She needs to make sure that what she does clearly contributes to the campaign. If she makes ANY missteps, they will be seen as weakening the campaign.

If McCain wins (as most here think will happen), she needs to ensure he is convinced of her loyalty and value. There is always the danger of being dropped from the ticket for McCain’s second term if he is displeased with her.

Yeah,,, Id like to see him dump Palin. He’d find out *real* fast why he won in 2008. Shes the ONLY reason he has a prayer.

“The Politico are bunch of candyass leftists.”

absolutely, they are just a pathetic attempt by some MSM hacks to build an internet/blog rep. Nothing new here, just packaged differently.

The only problem is, we have seen what happens to her in interviews. The 'reporters' do all they can to twist and parse her words, asking every question in the unwinnable "Have you stopped beating your spouse, yes or no?" format.

If she's charming, she's a brainless beauty queen. If she's tough, she's a b!tch. The national media has an animosity toward her that the local Alaskan news likely did not.

That being said, Sarah is a survivor. I trust her instincts. Let her loose.

...McCain’s second term...

I think you'll find that most folk on this board think that your "McCain's second term" is more than likely Palin's first term.

Palin has moxie, tenacity, guts and gravitas! All the things that McCain doesn’t have. I have a deep respect for his service and those 5 years in prison but his stance as a politition has been anything but conservative.
I honestly don’t believe that Sarah even likes him. She joined because of her dedication as a true patriot and the potential to be POTUS herself.
