Why Was McCain Harder On Romney Than Obama? Answer Could Cost The Presidency

No, it wasn't a mirage. During the Republican presidential debates, Sen. John McCain often went toe to toe with his adversaries...just ask former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney. I think we all can remember, along with Romney, seeing the senior Senator from Arizona grit his teeth and unleash some biting attacks that would have made Don Rickles proud.

Last week, the third and final debate was held between McCain and his Democratic challenger Sen. Barack Obama. I think it's safe to say, the McCain we saw during the Republican primary season never appeared during the debates with Obama and many are puzzled as to why.

Why didn't John McCain mention William Ayers and the Weatherman terrorist's affiliations with Obama until the final debate and only briefly at that?

Why has McCain restricted anyone connected to his official campaign from discussing Obama's former minister Rev. Jeremiah Wright?

Why hasn't ...

Is McCain the perfect Presidential candidate? Of course not.

But he so far ahead of the generic Republican candidates out there that it’s amazing. No one will listen about William Ayres and Jeremiah Wright when the stock market is cratering every day, and George Bush’s face is on on TV every morning.

George, how about taking a three week vacation in the Bahamas?

It is amazing how much money we have spent for the ungrateful people of Iraq. Can you imagine if it was Bill Clinton doing this in Bosnia, how the FReepers would be complaining?

What is the real reason Sen. John McCain has played patty-cake with Barack Obama? McCain wants to be liked.

More precisely, he wants to be liked by the media. So did W., which is why he tried to fight limited wars in Afghanistan and Iraq (pre-surge), why he talked all that crap about "changing the tone" (only to have Democrats punch him in the metaphorical gut).

The media will never like Republicans. Get used to it. Ronnie didn't care if the media liked him, because he talked over the media directly to the American people. His example is what we should follow.

Short answer: Because John McCain isn't a Republican. He's a pro-defense Democrat not so different from Joe Liebermann or Henry Jackson.

I'm getting the sickening feeling that he worked so hard to get this nominaton not because he wanted to be president, but because he wanted to ensure that no Republican could get elected.

While I love and applaud the choice of Sarah Palin, I'm getting very concerned that the pathetic campaign he is waging against the most pathetic Democrat nominee since James Buchanan will damage her future as well.

The short answer is that McCain was competing for your vote back during the primaries. He isn't anymore. He's aiming his message at other people, many of them brain challenged, and that message doesn't resonate with you or me or us. I only hope that he and his strategists know what they are doing.

He hit that one out of the park. McCain has always been more comfortable attacking his own than going after the enemy. McCain was a useful idiot to the press and he either never realized it or didn’t care as long as he was liked. I think even today he is surprised by how mean the NYT and others are being to him. The only things keeping him in the race are Sarah bless her heart and the fact that an awful lot of us are scared to death of Bambi and his leftist mobs. What a way to run a country.

Sarah Palin and Joe the Plumber have come to the rescue.

McCain finally took the gloves off...but of course, the media had already put out he had anger problems, so he could not really hit that hard. But the pitbull is out there doing her job. Thank goodness.

It is true that McCain hit Romney hard....but the race factor was not present either. RACIST RACIST is the mode of operation of the left...and it is a very real tactic of theirs.

You ever hear McCain mention the Global Poverty Act that Obama sponsored in the senate? This will cost tax payers $845 billion over 13 years. Reparations would cost less ($845 Billion / 40.9 million blacks in USA = about $20, 600). Instead of giving the money to the UN as Obama proposed, we’d at least have the money spent over here if there were reparations.

I don’t want reparations but I’d sure prefer it to the crap that Obama has proposed.

If McCain had made this an issue, it would have hurt Obama very much. Blacks wouldn’t like him sending $845 billion to the UN when we have people here that need it too. There’s not many Republicans that would have bought into Obama’s BS.

My guess is that McCain didn’t mention it because he’s been in the tank for Soros too.

McCain would have won going away if he had made this an issue. Our federal budget for 2008 was 2.9 Trillion. Obama wants us to commit almost 1/3 that amount for a Global Welfare Program.

Again, I am not for reparations but this would really have stirred up some people.

And you, my friend, are full of it.

McCain was the second worst GOP candidate for President right in front of Rudy.

There were multiple reasons as to why 90% of the people who took part in FreeRepublic Polls said "No Way" to John McCain.

He is the poster boy for RINOism.

He is our candidate, for better or mostly worse, but the need to distort what he is and has been should stop.

“I’m getting the sickening feeling that he worked so hard to get this nomination not because he wanted to be president, but because he wanted to ensure that no Republican could get elected.”

Pay the man Shirley. His victory was defeating the Republican Party in the primaries. He would be very content to lose the election. He said as much in his interview with Chris Wallace. Sarah has been embarrassing him into running a tougher campaign because she isn’t following the script anymore. Her handlers tried to shut her up the other day in CO and she blew them off. She is now off the reservation and is just being Sarah which is great. She is dragging McCain through this campaign kicking and screaming, much to his consternation. I don’t know if it will be enough, but everytime I hear Mitt, Huck, Fred or Newt on TV it almost brings me to tears. We had better people, much better people, but we allowed the press, Democrats, crossovers, radical EVs and front loaded winner take all primaries to pick our candidate and now we are paying the price and soon the whole country may join us.

Well, no one’s said it yet so I will. Because inevitably he will end up being called a racist and he is trying not to fall into the same trap that Bill and Hillary Clinton did. With the MSM, he is damned either way — and to be blunt, it sucks.

Repeating my response from Sept 27, 2008 ... we are all doomed ... why are we letting this takeover happen ... why are so many people falling in lockstep behind “O” ... why do so many “O” supporters seem to be in a trance ... this is scary ... where is our homeland security ... are they willing to just let this election happen because they are more afraid of the aftermath if “O” loses.

Yea, but fighting for what?

Rudy was a one-note band as far as conservatives were concerned, The War on Terror.

He had a lousy history on everything held dear to social conservatives and his fiscal history was a complete mixed bag and he wasn't above papering over and distorting his own record to make himself appear fiscally conservative.

He definitely wasn’t my 1st, 2nd, 3rd, or 4th choice, but I have heard him at least 4 times since the convention and he makes the case for McCain much better than McCain does.
