(Carson City, Nevada) – Citizen Outreach PAC today formally endorsed Nevada Republican Gov. Jim Gibbons’ emergency executive order (EO #666) issued yesterday afternoon which mandates the removal of all curtains from private polling booths for the duration of early voting, as well as on Election Day in two weeks. The governor cited weak polling numbers for GOP candidates as the reason for the unprecedented action.
Gibbons’ executive order - titled the “Voter Free Choice Act” (VFCA) - is intended to make it easier for Republicans to organize the electorate and have them choose Republican representation in the Legislature next year. In addition to the removal of curtains on polling booths, Gibbons’ executive order allows GOP volunteers to patrol voting locations and look over the shoulders of voters as they cast their ballots.
In signing the VFCA, Gibbons said the current system for electing members to the Legislature is broken; that it’s just too hard for Republicans to get the votes they need to win seats. “Every election cycle, Democrats and their allies routinely intimidate, harass, coerce and even threaten voters who try to choose Republicans to represent them,” said Gibbons. “The deck is stacked against us. By eliminating the confidentiality of casting ballots behind closed curtains and making sure a Republican is watching over every vote cast, we’ll be leveling the playing field.”
In addition to the Voter Free Choice Act, Citizen Outreach PAC President Chuck Muth said he would pursue legislation in the 2009 Legislature to allow “ballot check.” It would work like this…
Republican activists would be allowed to go to voters’ homes with a sample ballot listing the names of all the Republican candidates running for various offices. Voters would be asked to simply check off their names on the ballot and sign it. If more than 50 percent of registered voters sign the ballots, the election would be cancelled and the Republicans would automatically be sworn into office.
“It’s time to revolutionize our electoral system and make it easier to elect Republicans regardless of the fact that a majority of Nevadans have chosen to register as Democrats,” said Muth. “And eliminating elections will save taxpayers a ton of money, too.”
In conclusion, Muth acknowledge that while the above news replease was purely satirical, Sen. Barack Obama and organized labor support actual federal legislation to eliminate secret ballots in union elections.
