It may not have come as a huge surprise to British observers that an ordinary little guy like Joe Wurzelbacher, now forever to be known as "Joe the Plumber", should have been propelled into a position of such influence in a presidential election. After all, we have had momentously important swings in election campaigns here as a consequence of anecdotes about individual ordinary people.
Remember The Battle of Jennifer's Ear in which the discrediting of Labour's claims about supposed delays to NHS treatment for one child, was widely believed to have helped the Conservatives back into power? (Not only had her operation not been delayed by "Tory cuts" in NHS spending, but her parents turned out to be Conservative supporters.) So no, it is not the sudden stardom of Joe that is likely to cause bewilderment here but his unabashed outrage at the policies of Barack Obama - and the extent to which that outrage has struck a chord with so many blue collar Americans.
As Joe has made clear in a number of the media interviews which he has been called upon to give, he is enraged by the Obama philosophy which dictates that those who become too successful should be penalised by having the wealth (that they themselves have produced) confiscated by government so that it can be, as Mr Obama put it, "spread around". Joe's words are significant: "It's not right for someone to decide [that] you've done too good and now we're going to take some of it back." And he adds for emphasis, "That's just completely wrong."
What Joe is doing is making an unapologetic moral case for the right of the hard-working and enterprising to reap the benefits of their success without penalty.

Joe The Plumber is angry for the same reason the rest of us are angry. People are trying to make the last place on the planet that isn’t a miserable socialist craphole into a miserable socialist craphole and we ARE SICK OF IT!!
Joe The Plumber represents real America. The America that is going to show up on November 4th to rid us of these communist thugs and their draconian ideas.
Thats right...BO take your Marxism and shove it...
This is all we expect of our elected leaders. Is it so difficult for them that an average blue collar worker has to speak for us?
October surprise?
