The lad is a real treat. I hope he stays with it.

A few years ago there was a lass in my church who was taking piano lessons. Her father asked me to come to her recital when she was 12. It was a large audience to be for a sub-teen's recital and many of the attendees were other piano teachers and a couple of music profs from the community college and 2 more from FSU and UWF. She was awesome. It was like being in a classical concert in Chicago. A year later she was getting a little depressed because it seemed to her that all her life was to be practicing. We asked her to play for the church but her instructor said she could not play on our Yamaha keyboard because it would complicate things for her classical hands. So the church had a fundraiser and got a matching donation from a local businessman and acquired a very fine grand piano for our little church so she could play for us.

Chau eventually went off to university on a full scholarship to get a medical degree. I had been sure she was headed for Julliard. Oh well. But now we have a really good piano and because of having it and Chau's example there are half a dozen more talented kids taking lessons. And we have a family that came from Viet Nam 6 months ago with two daughters who also play well, one of them is 13. A couple of our kids are playing for other churches now.Our church is musically blessed.
