I attend the "fine" learning "establishment" known as LHS, Laurel High School (and before anyone says anything, I chose to go to this school because I felt it was my duty as a Catholic Republican to actually be someone who's gonna stand up for what I believe, evangilize, if you will.) I'm in AP Government there along with two honors courses and three regular (one which is a Junior/Senior class, Psychology, while I, myself, am a Sophomore) classes. Our lunch period is known as "Spartan Hour" (our school mascot is the Spartan -which is SO epic, only reason I like the school).
So, this year the county (Prince George's county) has decided we need to take an eighth class. This deciscion was apparently passed for every school, so we're not "special". This class is known fondly as your "Advisory" period. You're assigned with a group of fellow students to a teacher who isn't in any of your real classes. Advisory is basically a "get to know you" class, so that way a teacher will know us "personally" and be able to help us with "problems". Yeah, like it's really gonna work.
Annywho, now that the explanations are done, to the story.
I was transferred to a different "advisory" yesterday. I get there, the teacher puts my name in the system, and I go sit in a seat, throwing down my backpack on the floor (which has a "Friends don't let friends vote democrat" button on it, by the way.) and lean forward on the desk, a bit tired from my amount of homework and how heavy my bag is. Skip to when the entire class (everyone was transferred to this teacher today, by the way, and I might want to also add I am the only white kid in this entire class of 15- I believe thats the number- other than the teacher) is sitting around one big table (this was an art room) and the teacher was going around the circle, asking our names and what our main interests are. I'm spacing out because the only way to get a grade in this class is to show up, and I was considering catching up on my sleep, when I hear one girl say, "Oh, psssssh, McCain is BOMBIN'!" (which is ghetto slang, normally anyway, for cool, if you didn't know) and my first thought is "O_O OMG! NO WAY! Someone in this school is on my side...fighting with me!! Yay!". I then turn to her, smiling "Wait, you're for McCain?" She gives me the stupidest look and says "Whatchutalkinbout? Nuh-uh!" and I turn away with a disappointed face "Oh..."
The girl then turns to me, bewildered, and points her finger "wait, you fo' McCain??" I nod, replying that I am, and she rebuttals (as the entire class gasps in total shock either that I am, or that I'm admitting it, or probably both) "Nuh-uh! You not!" I pull my button from my shirt forward and nod again, laughing a bit "Yeeah I am!" and, to my shock, she flings herself on the table at me screaming things incoherently (one of which I made out to be "it's cause he be black, ain't it?!" which I did yell "No, I wouldn't care if he were purple" her not hearing that yelling "it's cause he looks different than you!!" and I yelled "PALIN LOOKS DIFFERENT THAN EVERYONE IN THE RACE!") at me and flailing her arms as several guys next to her walk to the opposite side of the room, making a dramatic point that they think I'm an idiot. After she calms down a bit, at least to a point where I can understand her screaming and pick it out from the rest of the classes screaming, I hear her asking me "why the hell" I'm for McCain. I open my mouth to explain, maybe pull out a few articles I've got printed out as evidence and proof to prove my point, and she won't even be quiet to let me. I keep trying to break through the yelling, the teacher trying to calm things down, raising my voice some to be heard. The teacher tells her to calm down and she says "I was jus' tryin' t'ask her why she likes him!" and the teacher says "Then let her talk and stop attacking her!" I thank her, and try to proceed with my reasons, and the girl keeps going! I manage to get one thing in, saying, "Look, if you really wanna know why I'm for him, ask me during Spartan Hour" and she crosses her arms "I don' wanna ask yo durin' Spartan Hour!!", to which I respond "then why do you keep bugging me about it since you don't wanna know so bad?"
My teacher tries again to go on, the girl finally having pulled her body off the table and having stopped flailing her arms, she says "Weal, lemme just sa' one mo' thing! Whyyy would you want someone who is just annother Bush and is gonn' screw up our economy more and it's his fault cause he be votin' against the things that gonn' fix it!" Now, I've been being made fun of and harassed by teachers and the majority of the student population, and I figured I needed to stop turning the other cheek and stop them from thinking these lies (one of my teachers likes making Palin seem like an idiotic woman who isn't fit to run, although the teacher is a woman herself) and I raise my arm, and my voice, and yell "That is not true at all! You need to get your facts straight before you start saying all of this!!"
She then raises her voice again and says that she has her facts straight, I don't have mine straight. I insist that mine are correct and not from the media, and she needs to get hers straight. It goes on a bit longer until the teacher intervenes, yet again, telling us not to discuss politics in class. It calms down, and in annoyance and defeat the girl who was yelling at me turns around and crosses her arms, cussing me out to her "homeies". I turn to the side, annoyed because I know this is the start of yet another class I'm going to be bullied in. MY teacher tells us to stop sulking, so she turns around, me still remaining facing the side, looking at the wall at the art class posters to note what I know as to what I don't. Some of the students then ask her "You votin' fo Obama?" and she nods, adding in "I wouldn't vote for McCain if you paid me"
...
Ladies and Gentlemen! Welcome to the life of a 15-year-old pro-life, Republican White girl in the PG County school system!
God bless you...
...Maryland is a lost cause unfortunately...why with O’Malley and all...um..well you know what I mean.
..stay strong.
Hooah.
I’m sorry you’re being bullied (that’s what it is) and I think you need to learn some martial arts.
I saw someone mention Mount St. Mary’s...I just passed by there on my way home to PA from DC. It’s magical at night.
I wish you the best.
Hmm it doesn’t seem that long, and reading the title alone confirms my fears. Especially with his Hitler Youth “idea”.
Young lady, you are truly a pilgrim in an unholy land. Please watch your back, I fear for your safety.
You are braver than I am, girly. But you go and stay strong. I’ll be watching for your name in a few years... I think you’ve got it in you to be somebody that we can keep our eye on.
God bless!
thanks so much!! I mentioned it, I wanna go there for college. badly.
BRAVO, WE LOVE YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
thanks, I know it is, but hopefully I can at least cancel out some of those Obama votes...hopefully.
Honesty, with this story, prayers are about all you’ve got against that hoard!!!!
But you sound like a smart cookie so you’ll do fine.
I too am from Laurel. Although considerably older than you.
These people you go to school with are racist pigs. They are intolerant and arrogant.
And they are the AP of PG county.
We are the modern Jews and they are the modern nazis. Learn how to defend yourself.
thanks so much, and you’ll see my name in an add for the latest best-selling author (and hopefully hottest new thing to hit the musical stage since The Clash -which I LOVE- << >>)
zomg fan club?
jkjkjk
Thanks :D
I’ve been trying to, and thanks. :]
Reminds me of several experiences in my life. I am also from Maryland and was in a “Study Hall” class which turned out to be headed by a Michael Moore loving lunatic. Unfortunately I feel very uncomfortable having to be outnumbered and we both yelled at each other, this was in High School BTW and I turned 22 recently.
I also remember that one person in the groups that I was with(one a Jewish group and another a group with asperger’s) was either a Republican or a McCain voter(yeah that small). It is pretty handy for me to keep my mouth closed until I wanted to present some realistic details. Otherwise I just think, why should I put up with this much adversity? It is obvious that I will not be making any progress. My problem, I guess, is that I am very skeptical about how evidence will be read by the true believers I meet. So you are in one of the big Democrat counties in Maryland? If the girl loves Obama so much, A good amount, it seems, because of his skin color, did her parents vote for Michael Steele in the last season, since he isn’t authentic “ghetto” trash or a Feel-Good Jesse Jackson suck-up, they just don’t care.
Thank goodness she didn’t bite your head off, she seems like quite a piece of work, with a nice hint of indoctrination also.
I had no idea it closed. Just called. They’re reopening in a few months somewhere else.
Way overpriced but the cream of crab soup is the best. A great crab cake too.
Yes, most of the kids in the school only care about his skin color. Half of them know NOTHING of his real views, or even know who Michael Steel is (who I’m going to bring up next time race is mentioned, thanks)
Cool login name. Assuming your last name is O’Malley like mine, I’m pinging some other O’Malley Freepers.
I’ll need to read your article later.
Great job, and very well written!
Keep it up and fight the good fight. Always stand up for what you believe in, and let your convictions take you through any uncertainities.
At least you don’t live in the Democratic enclave that is NE Ohio, where leaders like Dennis Kucinich have taken this once hard working area and turned it into a welfare state.
TAKE CARE!!!
Good vanity newbie!
Don’t be mad at your classmates, pity them they’re brainwashed into the media “matrix”, the pop culture orb of knowledge.
Watch the video here, I’m curious to see what a 15 year old thinks of it.

BTW, I got married at St. Mary's on Main Street in Laurel on 6-19-1965.
