(vanity) Cat teethbrushing experiences: DO TELL

So earlier today we had a most illuminating thread on the travails of bathing one's cat.
Now I'd like to hear from cat owners' experiences with brushing their cats' teeth:
- How often?
- How easy is it?
- How best to do it?
We have a cute little kitteh or two here whose breath is beginning to represent The Crypt. And I've heard that remedial dental work on cats can be $pendy as all get-out.

Amazing what they can do with CGI these days. And I say that because based on my cat experience - those aren’t real cats.

Huh! That didn't look so bad.
I suspect my experience may differ.
To: piasa
That’s very interesting, piasa. Wonder why my vet just always says, “no bones.”
thanks for the info.

Everyone with any experience with cats knows that all you hafta do is leave your toothbrushes out and your cat will clean its own teeth.

Pay the vet, its not worth the suffering. That was certainly true for our last kitty - Li'L Iron Jaws. She would twist her own head off before opening her mouth for us - a task made even harder since she was Persian and had a flat face.
Our current Persian kitties came from a trailer park in southern Virginia. They are little slack-jawed yokels. If you flip them on their backs and rub between their eyes, their little mouths drop open. Makes it easy to give pills and give the teeth a brush now and then. I've never seen anything like it.

An attempt to brush my cat’s teeth in February of this year cost me my life.

I like my hands and arms intact..Do they have breath mints for cats?
I feed my cats dry food only..I have never had a “breath problem”.

I wish we had a cat that would drop a jaw open. Sadly, that is not true, and I have the scars to prove it as such.
The vet has the stuff to do the job. Let him bleed.
In the course of my life, I have been stepped on and thrown from horses, run over by cattle, bitten by dogs when trying to break up a fight. I have been spat upon by Llamas, slapped by a monkey and had snakes jump at me.
By far, a cat is the most dangerous when irritated.
