At Last, I Get It
The Minority Report ^ | 24 September 2008 | .cnI redruM

Posted on 09/24/2008 6:33:04 PM PDT by .cnI redruM

I’ll be the first to admit it. I’ll laugh at myself on this one so that you guys don’t have to. John McCain wasn’t sacrificing anything by suspending his campaign. He was calling “Vegas Harry’s” bluff. Senator Reid opined that he could read minds when he offered up the following bit of “truthiness” regarding Senator McCain’s position on the bailout.

“I got some good news in the last hour or so … it appears that Sen. McCain is going to come out for this,” Reid announced.

It seems Reid had described McCain’s actual position about as accurately as Senator Joseph Biden had described FDR’s Fireside Chats. He managed to vibrate between the quantum state of ignorant and the quantum state of wrong.

Senator McCain is so far from supporting the current package that he suspended his campaign for office to return to the Senate and thrash out a more workable version. His displeasure with the current version is expressed in a joint statement released by both John McCain and his opponent Senator Barack Obama.

“The American people are facing a moment of economic crisis. No matter how this began, we all have a responsibility to work through it and restore confidence in our economy. The jobs, savings, and prosperity of the American people are at stake,” the joint statement said.

The plan that has been submitted to Congress by the Bush Administration is flawed, but the effort to protect the American economy must not fail,” Sen. Obama (Ill.) and McCain (Ariz.) stated.

This statement does not reflect support for the plan as it now stands. It reflects support for changing at least some if not all of it. It suggests Senator McCain intends to remind more than a few people of what he thinks they should have done back in 2005. Senator Reid helped make sure that nothing got done in 2005 and is in no mood to accept that sort of public rebuke.

Senator Reid no longer wants Senator McCain’s support. He’s now afraid that Senator McCain would actually show up and do some work. He issued a statement attempting to make John McCain from making him look rather puny and pathetic.

A Democrat tells ABC News that, in a phone call late this afternoon, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., told Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., that it would NOT be helpful for him to come back to Washington, D.C., to work on the Wall Street bailout bill.

So Senator McCain is not shutting down the Presidential Campaign garbage to sacrifice his candidacy on the alter of a dumb bailout bill. He’s going to DC to demonstatrate what happens when Chuck Norris runs out of gum. I wouldn’t want to be John McCain’s friend Harry Reid.

John McCain detests Harry Reid. He wants to either

A) Ram through the reform bill Reid helped block in '05

or

B) Make Reid sabotage it and own the failure to help in this economic crisis.

This is going to be interesting. John McCain could prove the core of what he has been campaigning on. He is however showing Washington that he doesnt care what they say. Come ...don’t come...debate...don’t debate. He is not going to let the DC insiders tell him what to do.

The joint statement puts O on the opposite side of his party’s “leadership” & meanwhile, the GOP legislators are lining up behind their nominee.

McCain does have a big opportunity here. He had better not put bipartisanship ahead of the American people. He has yet to disappoint. I’ll trust him till he does.

We've had this financial mess going on for years - it's odd timing that it came to a head right before the election.

Makes sense too, except the part where W invites EMPTY SUIT to come to Washington.

I have never been a McCain supporter, but I see 1/2 of my fellows supporting Obama, now I see McCain as a 4 year buffer to Socialism and an opportunity to hunker down and prepare.

Idiots that I work with are willing to go the socialist path, and not even know that they are... (I HATE UNIONS)

McCain might be our crazy aunt living in the attic, but you can't help but to smile when he bares his fangs at the Sedition. The problem is, it increasingly appears that roughly 50% of this country is either too indifferent, too dependent, too ignorant, too selfish, too evil, and/or just too f*cking stoopid to see where it all started and where it may well end. I don't see any sort of quiet, fairy-tale ending on November 4th. Regardless of who wins, I see turmoil on the horizon that makes all of this look like someone sitting in a dentist's waiting room with a case of the jits.

I think the prospect of a Palin Administration made a lot of us more pleased with a one term McCain Administration.

The best part is O coming to D.C.

This afternoon the zero insisted there was no need for him to go to D.C. Of course, he opened the door by saying he would show up if he was called.

Well, Dubya said Jump and O said how high!

The media can spin to their heart’s content, and they will, but the truth is that McCain set the priority and the dems are falling into place.

They dare not stand in the way.

minus the W call to Ozero!

But it does have the "unintended" consequence of cutting short Ozeros debate prep, which he desperately needs on the foreign policy topic.

This is all too much. I am so very grateful to God that He let me live long enough to observe this theater. I can’t wait till the part that O and the crowd crash and burn.

Good evening, I thought about hijacking this thread. I wanted to rant about macro economics and the banking system vis a vis the Federal Reserve, and Treasury, but I won't.

These are interesting times we live in. For example, the more Obama commercials I hear, the more I might consider not calling John McCain, "Capt. Queeg," anymore.

And the Rays are in the playoffs, in first place, and will probably clench the pennant. Interesting times...
