September 19th, 2008 Singers for Obama release Yes We Can album
Posted by: Jill Serjeant
Youve heard them at the Obama campaign rallies and speeches for months, andstevie.jpg now all those Stevie Wonder, Sheryl Crow, John Mayer and Los Lonely Boys songs that warm up the Democratic Party crowds have been put together on one album.
Billed as the first-ever presidential campaign compilation, the 18-song disc Yes We Can: Voices of a Grassroots Movement also includes excerpts from speeches given by Barack Obama and goes on sale exclusively on the campaigns official Web site on Friday.
All proceeds from digital downloads ($24.99) and the old-fashioned CD ($30) will go to the Obama-Biden campaign, said Hidden Beach Recordings, which is behind the project.
Hidden Beach CEO Steve McKeever said the diverse artists contributing underscores how deeply inspiring this campaign has been across boundaries.
The recording includes Wonders Signed, Sealed, Delivered, Mayers Waiting on the World To Change, and Los Lonely Boys Make It Better, as well as new material by Lionel Richie and John Legend.
Absent from the list however is Barbra Streisand, one of Obamas biggest singing supporters.

Those damn Obamanoids have entirely way too much money. Thirty bucks for a CD with songs from a bunch of has beens?! Why doesn’t Obammy just tax his own supporters? We’d be out of this mess in no time!

Oh, no! Is there no end to this madness?
Are these people that naive or just plain gluttons for punishment?
Whatever the case, not one plugged nickel will go to the Obama-Biden coffers from my pocketbook!

When the distributors find out just what a piece of crap this collection is, and that the majority of consumers (like myself) would rather spend $30 or less on two or more CDs, this clay pigeon will turn up in the discount bins at Borders, Best Buy, and Circuit City with a rather thick layer of dust.

One of my favorite hip hop artists, Q-Tip (who now goes by the name of Kamaal The Abstract) is releasing his first official album in nine years on Election Day - because he believes Obama will be elected that day and it will make his album launch extra special.
I can't wait to get up that morning, pull the lever for McCain/Palin and head over to Best Buy around lunchtime to pick the new album up.
