BTW, Marge Gunderson is a very sympathetic character and people loved and imitated McDormand's Dakotas accent.
Marge Gunderson in Fargowas a normal, no-nonsense, all-common sense policewoman, wife, and expectant mom.
She was smart, efficient and fearless.
She was unfailingly polite to idiots, criminals and lechers - but uncompromising - with a strong sense of professional ethics and an ironclad personal conscience in matters of right and wrong.
She doggedly accomplished the task she set herself - a task that was above and beyond the call of duty. And she still treated the monster she apprehended as a human being.

She’s the most moral and appealing character in any of the Coen Brothers films. I don’t see how that’s supposed to be an insult.
