OK, tell us what that means for conservatives on November 4th?
That is a dilemma. Do we sacrifice our beliefs and elect a democrat who puts an R behind his because he is the less of two evils, or do we suck it up and and sacrifice the next four years for the long term betterment of our country?

Maybe this can put it in context for you.

You stand before two cages, the cage to your right contains a python, large, not venomous, but certainly capable of squeezing you to death if you get into the wrong position with it.

In the cage to the left, there sits coiled up a deadly King Cobra, if it strikes you with it's fangs, you will most likely die within minutes.

Your choice is to either take the python out of it's cage, drape it about your shoulders, treat it nicely, feed it at regular intervals to keep it sated and happy, and know that you will only have to take care of the python for 4 years, tops. If you keep that python in it's cage, it will most likely die, and will pose no threat to anyone.

However if you refuse to take care of the python, the King Cobra will be let out of it's cage, and you will have to either charm the snake with a flute (and you don't play the flute very well), run from the snake (and the cobra will very likely catch you before you can get out of range), and end up bitten BY the cobra, and your ass (and the rest of you) will be dead within minutes.

Unfortunately, one cage or the other will be opened, depending upon your decision. And your friends, family and fellow countrymen will live with the decision you make, for good or for bad.

How's that?

LOL — sorry mkjessup -—

I will NEVER appease McCain by pretending to like what he has done to us over the years... he is very lucky that many of us will vote FOR Sarah Palin, knowing that his name is on the same ticket... period

By selecting Sarah Palin he has done HIMSELF a favor and in the process has thrown us (conservatives) a bone in this race.. it is NOW time to throw us some steaks too !! —

How about the sacrifice one makes when going to college. On one hand most 18 -20 year olds can make enough money to be pretty comfortable. They have to put that amount of comfort aside in order to make the sacrifice of furthering their education.
While they are forced to live for a short time in discomfort, in the long run their education will be of a much larger benefit.
We have to make a decision in Nov. Do we want to elect a democrat just because he puts an R behind his name and will destroy the Republican Party, or do we want to sacrifice for four years and rebuild a party we can be proud of?
McCain will do to the Republicans what Jimmy Carter did to the democrats.

President McCain with a Democrat (or a go along GOP) Congress will, before 2012, legalize millions of illegals and naturalize millions of others. Regularized or naturalized, they will be mobilized to vote. The mechanism is already there in and in place and has already unseated one Conservative GOP Congressman in what should have been a conservative Orange County California district. This will be replicated across the nation. These will be overwhelmingly pre-disposed to vote SOLID DEMOCRATICA from 2010 and from 2012 forward. President McCain hence will have a hand in dramatically shifting the political democraphic in this land. It will not be the American you are figuring for 2012 I am sorry to say.

So you see, with the floodgates opened through this RINO President (Obama will do the same), we will be swamped and your idea of getting Palin in the White House in 2012 may be but a shadow of a dream.

You can try to swim from one side of a lake to another, but if in midstream you decide to down a fifth of chlorine bleach for "energy", you may never make it to the other side of that lake.

Sorry mkjessup, I had missed this reply from you...

roamer_1: That you are honest enough to admit it is in your favor, truly, but you support this treasonous bastard and his ilk at our peril, and I mean that sincerely.

Two questions for you Roamer:

1.) What do you think conservatives should do, vote for McCain/Palin, stay home, or vote for Obama?

None of the above. I think that conservatives should do what conservatives do best, and that is to organize and vote for Conservatives, at the presidential, and every other level.

That means Keyes to me, as he is the only Conservative I can see in the race, but if someone has a better candidate to rally around, I would be happy to look at others, providing that the candidate is *Conservative*.

2.) Would you have voted for Reagan when he was still a Democrat back in the day?

**NOTE: Reagan's first term was my first legal vote at age 18. My political attention span prior to that point was limited.

Perhaps. I have a lot of respect for some Democrats of that era. Reagan's famous quote, "I did not leave the Democrat Party, the Democrat Party left me!" is probably pretty close to the truth.

However, at the time, my primary function as a conservative was as a small "c" social conservative, and a Republican because my family has always been small businessmen.

It was Reagan, you see, and the movement he founded, who got me thinking about all three pillars of Conservatism, as he added the third leg of the Christian Right to their rightful place at the conservative table.

Prior to Reagan, I was less a Conservative, and more a Christian and patriot- Politics, patriotism, and faith in action politically, had not been synchronized in me prior to him, which is why I say "perhaps". Had it not been for his galvanizing effect, I, and many like me, would have never been, and my sons and daughters who grew up in that tradition may not have been either.

I ask Question 2 to see if you think it possible that McCain might be moving back to the right in his old age? (I can almost hear you sputtering 'hell no' already, lol)

It is my opinion that a man of seventy two years is not likely to have an epiphany. A man of that age who suddenly changes completely in what should be heart felt principles is either lying, weak, or an insufferable idiot.

Considering the facts on the table, that he took money from Soros and Kerry, that he has confounded Conservatism for eight years, that he has actively promoted socialism and subverted our sovereignty, and undermined the Constitution... My bet is that he has not changed his stripes one little bit.

Your suggestion only works if you DON'T agree with the TWO-PARTY system.... there is a MAJORITY party and MINORITY party... until Sarah Palin was named VP I was willing to allow the Republican Party to be the MINORITY for the next 4 years....

Well, I’ve been singing with the choir lately, so I’ll need to bookmark this thread for later. I like the honesty. Keep respect.

.

.

Here’s how I’ve been bumping Palin/Obama threads.

Sung to the tune of “Oh! Susanna, don’t you cry for me.”

“Oh, no Bama, please don’t lie to me... for I’m off to Free Republic with a laptop on my knee.”

I come from Minnesota with my laptop on my knee;
I’m goin’ to Free Republic my true love for to see.
It rained all night the day I left,
the weather it was dry;
The sun so hot I froze to death,
Obama don’t you lie.

Oh! No Bama, don’t you lie to me;
I come from Minnesota,
with my laptop on my knee.

I had a dream the other night,
When everything was still;
I thought I saw Obama dear,
A-coming for The Hill.
The smearing lie was in Duluth,
The tear was in his eye,
Said I, I’m coming for the truth
Obama don’t you lie.

Oh! No Bama, don’t you lie to me;
I’m off to Free Republic,
with my laptop on my knee.

I fight in my pajamas,
It’s plain for all to see.
I aim to be the next Buckhead;
The media all hate me.
I fell in love with Sarah
When my sister bit a moose.
The Guvnor’s family ate it up
And then they set it loose.

Oh! No Bama, don’t you lie to me;
I’m off to Free Republic,
with my laptop on my knee.

She loves her sons, she likes her guns,
and Trigonometry.
The media will jump the shark
When Juan makes history.
Well, JimRob knows she’ll pave the trolls
So controversially,
And Berg will knock Obama down
With friends of Hillary.

Oh! No Bama, don’t you lie to me;
I’m off to Free Republic with a laptop on my knee.

I soon will be in Hawaii,
And then I’ll look all ‘round,
And when I find his birth record,
I’ll fall upon the ground.
But if I do not find it,
This Freeper’ll surely die,
And when I’m dead and buried,
Obama don’t you lie.

Oh! No Bama, don’t you cry for me;
I’m off to Free Republic with a laptop on my knee

Your suggestion only works if you DON'T agree with the TWO-PARTY system.... there is a MAJORITY party and MINORITY party... until Sarah Palin was named VP I was willing to allow the Republican Party to be the MINORITY for the next 4 years....

The danger we face comes from socialism being represented in BOTH parties, making them two sides of the same coin, rather than two separate parties... McCain is the poster child of Republican globalist/socialists and is part of exactly the same Soros-funded machinery as the liberal left. To SUPPORT that, for any reason, is clearly beyond Conservatism.

Perhaps you'll take heed of some words of wisdom from your new found heroine:

"As for my running mate, you can be certain that wherever he goes, and whoever is listening, John McCain is the same man." -Sarah Palin, "VP Acceptance Speech" 2008 GOP Convention, 9/3/08 [emphasis mine]

I don't know about you, but I believe her on this one.

To accept McCain on the promise of Palin is still accepting McCain, and will be viewed as such. To lend mandate to his agenda is unconscionable, regardless of the nature of the attractive baubles he might lay before you.
