Simple fact is that she'll be VP and she'll be voting in favor of McCain policies in tight votes and she'll be endorsing McCain policies when she speaks.

Bingo!

That simply with the nomination to be his VP McCain has, as if with the wave of a magic wand, mindlessly won over critcs aware of his huge deficiencies (emotional, psychological, personal, political) shows me that in the end 90% of all voters (even on the right) are little more than mind-numbed robots.

Sorry, folks. Empress Sarah, like Emporer John, has no clothes.

I believe she[Sarah Palin] was forced on him.

I think you are correct. I doubt we'll ever hear what happened behind the scenes, but I'm guessing almost everyone else turned McCain down and Sarah really is a "Hail Mary" pass.

If it weren't for Palin, no one would be giving Gollum a second look.

He's proving to be the exact danger I predicted him to be with FReepers falling in line with every liberal ideal he holds simply because he's a republican.

I am actually (and perhaps naively) surprised at this, after all the venemous attacks on McCain during the primaries here. Now, all of a sudden, he's a wonderful candidate? This is no different than the libs, who we make fun of for not thinking for themselves and following the party blindly. I'll probably still vote for them, but I have concerns because of the top of the ticket.

While I like Sarah Palin, I'm sick of her name being invoked as if it holds some kind of argument ending magic. Simple fact is that she'll be VP and she'll be voting in favor of McCain policies in tight votes and she'll be endorsing McCain policies when she speaks.

Same here. She will have no power whatsoever as VP. And her conservatism will be in doubt for 2012 because she will be backing McCain at every turn. She'll have to - a VP cannot disagree with their president.

I've been saying all along that we need to watch and see what plays out here: will he liberalize her or will she make him more conservative? (And I've been attacked for it - how dare I possibly have a thought of my own and face reality squarely? LOL!)

And that's fine because you are thinking for yourself. It makes you a likely torch carrier when it comes to holding McCain's feet to the fire.

Grampa Dave,

Thanks for your comment, however I must strongly disagree with you.. Sarah was on the short list for VP for every Republican candidate in the PRIMARY... So a lot of us have had our eyes on her for a very long time... The single best accomplishment of John McCain in the campaign was somehow getting Sarah Palin to agree to be on the ballot with him..... and for that I give him a LOT of credit, and for that he will get my vote.... but I don’t intend to give him a pass on so many other “issues”...not now.. and not for the next four years... If McCain makes it to the oval office it will ONLY be because of Sarah Paline.. period..

David

Well, once he's in office, there won't be a thing we can do. We didn't stop Bush from spending or pushing amnesty either. I'm just looking towards 2012...with guarded optimism ;)

He should be held under scrutiny from the right as you indicate. One could sense he will be honor bound to respect the views of the right of him in most cases. Time will tell just how sincere he will be.
We should keep in mind in three years if he does not perform up to our expectations that perhaps a very conservative opponent may step onto the scene. One so appealing that they would win the whole Republican and Independent vote. Obviously a Duncan Hunter comes to mind.

That she didn't know what "The Bush Doctrine" was confirms my worst fears about her: She really is an airhead. I can't consider anyone in public life unfamiliar with "The Bush Doctrine" an intelligent adult.

Well, it seems that none of the Palin fans agree with you. Not knowing what the press has labeled as “the Bush Doctrine”, doesn’t mean she doesn’t understand the concept. It means that she doesn’t get her news from the MSM.

There's the problem right there, Sir. If McCain has any honor, he keeps it well hidden.

None of us ever expected the communists to tell the truth. We knew from their past history that they were liars and cheats. So, knowing his past history, aren't conservatives who expect McCain to keep his word, adhere to honor and not to betray them being as naive as American leftists who trusted in communists?

I dislike Obama. But, I WILL NOT be an accomplice in my betrayal and conservatism's destruction by voting for John McCain.

Let them. If I've never backed down arguing with a roomful of democrats when they were wrong, whyever would I back down from defending the truth against a Republican such as yourself?

Not knowing what the press has labeled as “the Bush Doctrine”, doesn’t mean she doesn’t understand the concept. It means that she doesn’t get her news from the MSM.

Ma'am, you don't know what is commonly known even within the administration as "The Bush Doctrine?"

Thanks! You proved my point for me!

I've lost all respect for you David. Your continued war against John McCain is foolish and disruptive. I am very excited about his choice of Gov. Palin but your reaction makes you look like a 7th grade boy with a crush. You make the Republican party look foolish with your continued rants against our nominee.

I'm so glad I was taken off your ping lists months ago.

Thanks for expressing your opinion.. I have no war “against” John McCain.. In fact I have made it clear that I am actually going to vote for him... But I am not going to be a “cheerleader” for him on MANY issues !

If conservatives act like they are happy with him as our nomminee we are moving our party further and further to the left.... is this what you want?
