Democrats Pushing for Four Day Work Week for Federal Employees

Can you guess the reason? How about high gas prices?

Nancy "Nine Percent" Pelosi shuts down Congress and skips town without passing an energy bill. Now the Democrats are pushing for a four day work week for gas relief for themselves and federal employees, even though they refuse to do anything to provide relief for ordinary Americans. Amazing!

I can’t afford a 4 day workweek.

On the other hand, it would finally be a good excuse to bail. I hate my job, I just stay for the pay. Also knowing I’m a leech on society isn’t fun. :/ Could finally do something productive.

Leaving energy costs out of the question, a four-day workweek would greatly ease the horrendous traffic problems around the nation’s capital. How lovely it would be to have ten percent of the drivers off the road on any given morning! Of course, everyone would want Friday or Monday as their extra day off, so to make sure anything got done the days off would have to be staggered, perhaps by lottery.

I could get behind this.

Umm ... I can guarantee you that if the Fed force moved to four day work weeks, there would not be a cent cut in their pay. So, effectively, that means a tax increase as there would be more Federal hires.

One more example of "9%-Nancy" trying to turn our nation into the bloated European example of heavy-bureaucracy, high-taxes, stuporific economies.

Why would you find it amazing that the Democrat Political people are doing something to benefit themselves and not regular American Citizens? That is who they are and what they do. has been for a long time now and shows no signs of changing anytme soon.

Yhis is such total BS posturing - ALL Federal employees already have the option of a 4 (or 4 1/2day) workweek under the Flex-Time schedule. The agencies that can do it, already are doing it. This is just Pelosi making it look like she is doing something, rather than do the obvious which is to introduce a comprehensive energy plan which includes alternatives energy sources, domestic drilling, and a standardization of gas blends.

Sheeeeesh, I think it would be a miracle if anything could get our Federal employees to “work” four days a week! That would be at least a 50% increase in productivity!

How did you arrive at the 10% number?

If less is better then what about a 1 and 2/3 day work week! Work 40 straight hours with no sleep then take the rest of the week off. The ultimate in saving the environment! /s

The problem isn’t going to be solved by eliminating one trip to work per week.

I just kind of pulled it out of my hat. What I figured is that half the drivers on the road who are going into the District of Columbia are federal employees. That may be completely wrong. So if half of the traffic is staying away for each of five days of a workweek, that's 10%, right?

You can see the positive affect this would have if you venture out onto Washington roads in August. A large part of the population is at the beach in August. As a result traffic is actually tolerable. It's possible to travel around the Beltway without recourse to obscenities and Tylenol.

I could be for that if they really think they’ll get the govt. employees to work the equivilent of four full days a week.

Been to the Post Office lately and watched as those union rules break into the work for a mandated 15 minute break, rush hour or no.

Absolutely true about the traffic. I hate going near DC for anything.

As far as the 4 day workweek for the feds, they pretty much do that now, unofficially. Try to get hold of anyone in government on a Friday —damn near impossible after 2:00 PM. And with a federal holiday falling on a Monday (like Labor Day) —NO ONE is around on Friday —automatic 4 day weekend.

But, if the government went to a 4 day workweek (10 hour days) my company probably would as well —either working 4-10 hour days or letting us telecommute a day a week. I've been pushing that a long time.

One of the reasons is that affordable housing is more and more west of DC —past Louden County, damn near Winchester, Culpeper and Linden —folks commute in sometimes over 2 hours one way. Only way they can afford to live in the area.

I work 12 hour days and 12 hour nights. Every 5th week, I work 4 8-hour days to balance out to 40 hour weeks. It's wonderful to be able to shop at WalMart on a weekday morning before the crowds hit. You can get a lot done when you aren't restricted to evenings and weekends. But you do give up the occasional weekend event to work.

I don’t mind working extra time. I don’t like being forced to though. I like having a choice of doing so.
