Drilling = Jobs. That's the answer to McCain...and the Republicans too...winning in November:
They should be saying "How do you spell oil? J-O-B. How do you spell coal? J-O-B. How do you spell new refineries? J-O-B How do you spell nuclear power? J-O-B. The sucking sound you hear as petroleum/coal related jobs go overseas is being made by Democrats and and their litigious environmental constituency." They are ensuring that good jobs...good UNION jobs...will be performed by Arabs, South Americans, Russians, and Africans instead.
McCain has touched on this a little, but he and the Republicans should be droning on and on about it.
Why don't they just say what is true, right, and will hand them the victory in November? This issue could totally nationalize the elections in favor of Republicans.

Well, I suppose don’t have to take any job you don’t want. How is that an issue? Most oil production jobs are unionized. Most coal mining jobs are unionized. That’s just the way it is.
Being retarded is not a unionized job. Its totally free-lance. But I wasn’t advertising for an opening.
Drilling is needed to lower the price of gas (direct pocket book issue), promote prosperity (high energy prices are a drag on the economy), and promote energy independence (national security issue). The jobs angle doesn’t really do it. The oil industry – the upstream part of it, anyway – just doesn’t employ enough people.
Maybe Halliburton will re-locate back.
They will anyway. Wait until the meltdown in Denver this week. If anything it will end up Clinton/Bayh.
I suggest you go to places like Lousiana and the Texas coast and count the towns who’s core industry is drilling and refining petroleum. Many Midwest and Southern towns only exist because of coal mining. Industries like petroleum and coal provide high paying jobs that end up generating whole service industry economies.
There is NO manufacturing industry in the world that employs a “lot of people”. That’s hardly a reason to force them to be done overseas when they can be done just as well here.
If you think people care more about vague “national security issues” than “where will I or my kids get a job” then you and I live around vastly different people.

Tell that to Canada. There are so many oil-patch jobs in northern Alberta and B.C. that a lot of regular jobs go unfilled.
I'm not saying energy industry jobs are not important. There's no reason not to push that angle in areas where the energy industry predominates. I'm just saying it's not the overall magic bullet for the GOP. The GOP really needs to make the case that cheap energy is important to the overall economy and improves everyone's economic well-being. And that the Democrat Party is standing in the way.
In caveman days, fire was probably just as useful and, you could go to a friend's cave and barter for some coals to heat-up your 'crib'. As the pelts piled up, the 'firestarter' could go out and barter for things like, I don't know, women?
Over time you realize that you'd better learn to make fire or this guy's gonna get all the girls and your 'footprint' in the scheme of things will disappear altogether.

Most oil-rich countries can buy whatever they need and begin producing it on their own. What they don't have (and what we used to have in abundance- like freedom) they aren't interested in anyway. So, what you have to do is, get together with your friends, and go over and whiz on this guy's fire enterprize. Put Fred Flintstone out of business. This will increase your currency (street cred for the Homies) and your women will be thankful.
Drill here, Drill Now is simply learning how to build your own fire, warm the cave, and keep the ladies at home. Absent that, I wouldn't want to be in Iran or any other oil-rich region fanning neutron coals when the boys who are taking it on the chin sporting very full bladders finally decide to come calling.
Bingo! You are absolutely correct because people are fed up with paying $4+ for gas. And energy production plays right into a strong economy. I hope they pay you big bucks at your political consulting firm.
The oil patch is a great career..great wages...can do spirit..hard work. Drilling along with major tax reform would move this country back on top in a very short time.
But if unions get involved kiss it all good bye. The oil patch from offices to the field is real work not make work.
What about all the upstream jobs created to fulfill the need for new drilling equipment, pipeline fittings, well heads, storage facility, refineries, etc.?
I would bet the steel industry alone would create 10,000 new jobs if there were a concerted national effort to increase oil production by 3 million bpd, like drilling simultaneously in ANWR, California Coast and Colorado oil shale would generate.
Have to agree. The upstream and support jobs...from cafes to airports would go nuts with hiring. it’s a win/win for everyone. Even state and local guvs would get to waste all the windfall tax revenues collected! LOL

Hello!!!! Once we open up all of these areas that have been closed for the PAST 30 YRS. You will see thousands of jobs created from it. You know, the trickle down effect.
I was listening a person who works oil rigs, he said getting parts etc. is a hassle because the US doe not produce steel anymore. How bout firing up those old steel mills????
