Sauerberg falls behind Durbin by 34 points
Durbin is one of America's most liberal Democrats. He's leading one of the most unpopular and ineffective Senate's since public opinion on Congress has been tracked.
Why is it that the people of Illinois are okay with Durbin and why do you think the Sauerberg candidacy is pollling so poorly 90 days out? From today's CQ Politics, we read:
Illinois: Two-term Democrat Richard Durbin leads Republican Steven Sauerberg, a physician, 61 percent to 27 percent with 11 percent undecided in a Rasmussen Reports poll conducted July 8. Durbin is viewed favorably by 63 percent of voters while Sauerberg's problem is that 36 percent described themselves as "not sure," meaning they don't know much about him. CQ Politics rates this race "Safe Democrat."

I have to wonder why Sauerberg's supporters are so obsessed over promoting a third tier candidate that clearly has NO chance of "beating Durbin", even if our blowhard senior senator suddenly dropped dead. What is THEIR agenda? There is a small but vocal group of Sauerbots bloggers online who seem to have endless devotion to a guy with no conservative principles and a hopeless inept campaign. WHY Sauerberg? Of all the Senate races nationwide, Sauerberg probably ranks about second-to-last in the "likely to win" category, ESPECIALLY with Obama on the top of the ticket in Illinois.
Is it just me, or does anyone else find it mighty suspicious that Sauerberg's fan club is pushing so hard at the expense of better, more conservative candidates who really DO need our help? Remember, Dick Durbin had a rather decent, prety conservative State Rep. run against him six years back -- who was severly underfunded but certainly more of a credible challenger than Sauerberg -- and he couldn't get the time of day here on FR. Compare that to over a dozen Sauerberg vanity posts in the past month. WHY Sauerberg? Even if Sauerberg were a good, reliable proven conervative (though the record shows Sauerberg is the exact opposite of that), he's running against one of the most powerful Dems in the Senate, in one of the worst states to run in (Obama's home state during Obama's nomination for President), during the worse time for a Republican in Illinois (Democrats have a near monopoly over all state offices in 2008 and the state GOP is completely in shambles) You don't see endless vanities asking Republicans to donate to Nancy Pelosi's Republican opponent, Dana Walsh , do you?
Something is fishy about the Sauerberg camp being so hellbent on promoting his non-existance "campaign" against Durbin. A number of conservative officials have suggested Sauerberg is a Dem plant installed by our bipartisan combine GOP chairman (whose are longtime Durbin donors) in an attempt to give Durbin a free ride to re-election and make sure Republicans are distracted by the Sauerberg campaign, and waste money and time on him instead of viable candidates (which is the very thing that caused the Dems to take control of Congress in 2006... party "leaders" were out hailing laughable candidates like Jan Ting and giving the cold shoulder to candidates having races down-to-the-wire, like Conrad Burns)
I wouldn't be surprised if Sauerberg's "support" is not what it seems.
Dick Durbin is a stain on the senate. Not quite the disgrace that some people like Chuck Schumer or Patric Leahy, but he is on his way.
Schumer and Leahy aren't up this year. The odiously senile moonbat Frank Lautenberg is up this year, and I don't see any "Dick Zimmer for Senate" cheerleader threads asking Republicans to dump time and money into solidly-Democrat New Jersey and their RINO candidate, do you?
And Zimmer's certainly more credibile than Sauerfraud, at least he's been elected to Congress before.
I’m not going to donate this guy like I didn’t donate to Keyes.. I know waste of money when I see it.
Vicious cycle. Durbin was percieved as a very strong incumbent, so all you are left with among those who are challenging him are idiots, making him appear even stronger, etc.
‘SAUERBERG’ search on FR returns the following:

Clueless, unelectable RINO running against the odious commie Frank Lautenberg gets a total of four posts, with none of them pretending he’s a conservative.
Clueless unelectable RINO running against the odious commie Dick Durbin gets a total of FIFTEEN posts (not counting the ones I posted to simply refute the Sauerberg is our savior stuff), with at least three trying to con freepers into thinking Sauerberg is conservative and pro-life, and several others falsely claiming the race is close and IL Republicans are united.
There is some kind of behind the scenes agenda at work here and I don’t like it.
Do you honestly think anything will change this year?
All I’m going to say is this.. Illinois is fracked up I’m looking to leave Illinois and I don’t care about Illinois no more.
Not that we should expect residents typical of communities organized by the likes of Bark O'Bama to interrupt the latest episode of the Price is Right or American Idol, or last Sunday's Jeremiah Wright rant to actually give a damn about who they send to Washington. As long as Durbinreedschumerleahyobama publicly piss on Bush, Cheney, and Rove and keep handing out the entitlements, they be happy.
I guess the voters of Illinois are morons or lemmings.
I think it might be both...
I don't know who Sauerberg is, but it sounds like you need to get a life.
No, see, at least he has a PURPOSE. You have none.
My purpose is to inform members of this forum the truth about his candidate and to provide them with alternate candidates they can support who would actually advance the conservative cause in Illinois.
I'll leave it to the rest of FR to determine who's purpose is more constructive on a forum like this. Given that the pro-Sauerberg vanities have gotten about 0-2 replies as of late, I think freepers have concluded which of us has “no life”
Bill, I agree with you. Free Republic forums are for helping conservatives, not for helping RINO’s. Koppie is a better candidate than Sauerberg because Koppie is conservative and because Koppie has political experience. He was a township trustee, and he’s a county regional school board trustee. Sauerberg is a moderate who hasn’t run for office before this year.
