The older voters (who would vote for someone like McCain) are dying off and being replaced on the voting rolls by teenagers (who will most likely vote for a rock star like Obama).

I've recommended this before, but if you get a chance, get/borrow a copy of "Wild in the Streets," a 1969 movie about just this issue. I think it was a prophetic movie in its message about the decline of informed rationalism, and the rise of blind emotionalism in decision making - on a national scale.

Since the pundits think that McCain "won", the expectations for Obama for the actual debates will be VERY LOW which is good. The pundits will expect McCain to do better during the debates which is good for Obama. One always wants to have lower expectations.

One of my best friends is a hardcore militant vegan. She is an Assistant Professor of Womyn's Studies & Queer Musicology here at the local college and is a life long member of the CPUSA. She just left a voice mail on my phone (I was at a party---well, as long as I'm lying my ass off I might as well go all out) hopping mad about the debate.

"I can't believe how terrible Obama is- he makes my skin crawl!" she yelled into my phone. "You were right about this Hussein character all along. You win. I can't wait to vote for John McCain in November and I hope he picks Duncan Hunter for a running mate!"
